Have we talked about the new Ryan Leslie yet? It leaked this week and will be officially dropping Nov 3rd.
After the first listen I felt it was slightly less impressive than his last effort. But after a couple more times through I can honestly say I'm digging at least as much. The two hip-hop flavored tracks are god awful (sounds like something the label wanted added) but for the most part he's back with more great melodies and smoothly layered keys. One quick note for those thinking about picking this up ... make sure you get the deluxe edition. The 3 bonus tracks on there are among the best on the album. I'm a little underwhelmed with it. I expected tighter tracks. Instead, they are looser and more synthy and less structured. (Its not nice to say "sloopy" so I won't)
Overall, its not a bad record but it lacks continuity and it lacks the flair that the first one had. What's odd is that his productions are as strong as ever. It sounds like he used his own throwawy tracks for his record. This is at first listen. Give me another sitting with it as it might take some absorbing to decipher the depth of the record. | |
