Centric is slipping. This is one of the episodes that WGN aired a few years ago. I already have this one recorded. Next.... lol

I would have said 1983 because that's when "Joystick" was recorded but it had to be 1984 because they played "Freakshow On The Dancefloor" by The Barkays and that song didn't come out until 1984. Plus I remember seeing it when it originally aired also. biggrin

Just because Centric is airing eps that you already have on tape does not mean they are slipping. Many of us have not seen them, so to us, Centric is not slipping. They are not obligated just to air eps that you haven't seen.

I for one had hoped Centric would air Soul Train episode in chronological order,
It gives you a historical perspective in terms of were the Black community was culturally... how Soul Train evolved overtime. Was it last Sat. they aired the episode with Glady's & the Pips, the Thin Man (Kendricks) and Bobby Hutton? That was the first show from LA and it's first show aired for syndication.

Normally I would agree with you, but Centric isn't a cable network like WGN that has a full schedule of different shows daily. Centric seems to be doing the TV Land approach of taking only three or four shows and showing only a handful of episodes from those shows and re-airing them over and over several times a day and several times a week. (I call it the Clear Channel approach lol ) They haven't gotten to the point of TV Land yet but it looks like they might get to that point because I see what they've been doing with "Fame". They played a marathon of about four or five episodes of "Fame" and I have seen those same episodes about four times since then as I was flipping through the channels. It's as if "Fame" only made four or five episodes.

"Soul Train" was on the air for 30 years so there are endless episodes much moreso than sitcoms that only lasted about three or four seasons and I grew up on local stations airing re-runs the right way. The right way for Centric to do it would be to air a different episode on a nightly basis (Monday through Friday), then on Saturday, re-run those episodes in a marathon. That way, people would have a second chance if they missed an episode and things could keep moving on. Not to mention, we would be getting to see (translation: record) a lot more episodes. lol

They did that between 1984 and 1989. I remember when they played Janet's "Rhythm Nation" on there.

I saw that. That's back when Don was trying to reach a broader audience and people were accusing him of taking the soul out of "Soul Train". lol

Yeah I noticed that too Vain, and they are chopping those ones up too, going to commercials quicker and starting from different points. They always cut out the opening dance segments after the announcer says: "And Now, Don Corneilous" , they skip right to Don introducing the first song everytime, cutting out the dancers gettin' down to the Soul Train theme song. I guess they shaved the episodes down for cable TV

I've noticed how they have been cutting the show up in different places too. When it was on WGN, it aired exactly like it originally aired except for the "Best of Soul Train" logo that was placed ever so often and the ending credits.

When I record the episodes, I always cut out the commercials. The ending time on the DVD player when recording from WGN was usually between 40 and 45 minutes. On Centric, the ending time has been between 35 to 40 minutes. Apparently they wanted more time to constantly air that annoying Extenze commercial during every break when they play it at night. lol
