So is the org hip to Dam Funk?

Leading the new electro-funk movement out of LA. Spaced out 80s grooves with a new twist. His new album just dropped and it's epic ... 24 tracks of syrupy synth goodness! If you aren't familiar with his work check out the interview and preview his album here... very down to earth cat to deserves support!

He´s cool, I like him a lot. That Stonethrow guy, right? I have some of his stuff here at home and I like how his sound is reminiscent of everything I liked about the 80s funk sound without sounding too old. He knows how to take that sound into the present time. The same can´t be said about Prince though...probably because he doesn´t hear his sound the way WE hear it.

Dam Funk is cool in my book but some of his stuff needs to be worked on in order to sound even a bit better than it already is.

And I´m still waiting for Prince to really bring back the Minneapolis sound, at least for one project. MPLSOUND was not really what I wished for...nice album but the production didn´t sound nearly as innovative as way back in the day.

Dam Funk also seems to be a cool person to chat with.

I agree ... he's only scratching the surface of where he can go with this. But this is a great start. Two hours worth of music for $9 ain't bad either

The new album is good and unlike any other funk and i salute him for trying difference but, i just cant get down fully to it. Its too spacey and electro. At times it sounds like your computer crashing or random noises thrown together.

Some beats are very good but the robotic vocals or the muttering way of singing tied with (at times) major electro noises just ruin it for me.

Also, many tracks sound samey.

Rollin'
LAtrifying
are my two faves atm. LAtrifying because of the linn of course!

Deserves support nonetheless.

Its no way near P's MPLSoUND.

I can see what you're sayin on the other points but the album sound is very clean and melodic imo. Some of the tracks might go on a bit long but random is the last word I'd think of using with this. What you're talking about is more Sa Ra than Dam Funk

24 tracks for a $9 Amazon download is hard to resist. I've liked some of his stuff, but true 80s funk had lyrics, choruses, etc. It wasn't just tracks riding a keyboard groove. Dam Funk has the instrumentation down, but may be lacking that element to make his stuff memorable.

so on point. exactly how i feel about him . lots of potential but not enough memorable substance at the moment, just grooves and beats.

Guess y'all missed the time Dam-Funk himself posted on the org.

The streams on Amazon should give orgers a sense of his style:
