yes.....and it was not as good as the last one

and the last one was so good, that it makes the new one sound bad

so i have not listened to it in a while

but perhaps i should

kinda felt that way about U2 as well

but the new Pearl Jam is better than anything I have heard this year

so there you go biggrin

Great band. Not a great new record though.

And take a look at the first two pages of this forum and then you can guess why nobody responds to threads about Green Day, etc. Just look at the stickies.

This is a review from amazon that I happen to agree with.

I've been a casual fan of Green Day for quite a while, but was blown away by American Idiot. When I heard their new single (Know Your Enemy), I thought it could be indicative of one of two things. Either it wasn't the best song to lead off the singles from this new album, or it wasn't going to be as good an album as I was hoping.

When Amazon made the album available for only $5, I thought it would be a good chance to "give it a try". I listened to the previews and found them alright, but still not sure what the album was really going to bring. I downloaded and listened. Unfortunately for me, I was right that this album was not what I was hoping, or even expecting, to get with this outing from the trio.

Several of the songs sound like they're rehashing the same chords, song structures, etc. from previous albums. In the past, one of Green Day's strengths for me has been great song writing. However on this album it feels like an afterthought. Other reviewers have mentioned that it feels like they're attempting to make another American Idiot and ran out of ideas. I didn't even think the album achieved that. It was nowhere near the quality of American Idiot. In fact, after I got done listening to the album a couple times, I actually craved American Idiot, went back and listened to it instead and confirmed my feeling.

I don't expect a band to always come out and best themselves over previous albums; very hard to do. But with 21st Century Breakdown I felt that it's just a very average album with little to distinguish it from anything else in Green Day's catalog; very lackluster. Your opinion may vary, but my overall opinion is that it's only an average album, both for current offerings of today, as well as for Green Day. Don't buy this as a first purchase if you don't have any other Green Day. American Idiot is far more mature as an album, and Dookie is much more fun.

eek

I love the Foxboro Hot Tubs album. It's Green Day doing Green Day under a different name. Red Tide is a killer cut.

I'm a fan and listen to their channel on my IPhone regularly.I agree with notion that they were trying for another American Idiot and failed. It's not their best, but I still listen to it.

Not keen on the current album, but they are a damn good live band.

I was at one of the Milton Keynes shows a few years back, where the live DVD was filmed. Great stuff it was, too.

Some of my favourite songs of theirs are actually off Warning, which wasn't all that well received. Macy's Day Parade is a real favourite of mine, but maybe it isn't "punky" enough for the fans.
This is not an exit

I'm surprised! I am VERY familiar with American Idiot, but I like the new album better. I love the new album. American Idiot is great, but I find 21st Century more enjoyable overall. American Idiot is less interesting to me as a whole. At first, I felt like 21st Century was long -- but when I studied it with the lyrics and all, I liked it better. I think the dramatic three act structure rock opera format even holds up better in the current album, if I dare say so.

Know Your Enemy is NOT one of the stronger tracks however, so that's not a good example.

Classical and country have always been pretty weak here, but I have found such incredible depth and diversity in people's tastes on this forum. I have discussed punk, 20th century avant garde, even gypsy music. Green Day does not seem like such a stretch -- straight up rock and roll, pretty mainstream -- so it's kind of a mystery to me why there's not more mention of this band.

Isn't there a musical currently playing based on one of their albums? I can't say I'm much of a fan, other then their Dookie album. Old School Punk and Hardcore , yes, not so much the Pop-Punk of Green Day.

Here's the trailer for the American Idiot musical:

I work at the theatre that's putting it on and have seen it four times. That's how I met Billie Joe and Tré Cool. biggrin

I thought I was the only one who loved Warning. That, and Nimrod are my favorites.

Warning is my favorite. And how and where did you get that pic w/u and Billy?

I was at the infamous Woodstock 94 show where they had a mud fight with the audience. Here is a clip.

oh, and most of the music you find here on the org is related to R&B (MJ and company)so that is why you do not find Green Day threads, etc.

Isn't that photo gorgeous? love It was taken last month, Sept 16 to be exact. I was at the Opening Night Party for the American Idiot musical. The whole band was there. It was nuts. There was a station where they were giving free mohawks, and then Billie Joe decided to give someone a mohawk.

I had met him briefly a week before at the final dress rehearsal. I sensed he enjoyed getting attention from fans. He's a very down-to-earth guy. He has incredibly soft energy - I don't know how else to describe it. There was a photo booth set up and me and my friends decided to get our picture taken. Billie Joe was talking to someone about three feet away, so I just jumped in and asked him if he wanted to be in our photo. He didn't require much coaxing, although he said, "if it's fast". cloud9

I have a picture with Tré Cool as well. biggrin

Billy has come a long way, because on that day in Woodstock he also walked around the stage with his pants down near his feet and no underwear! lol

They are a great band. I have seen them twice this year(5x total) and I definately recommend seeing them live if you get the chance. I even got to see one of their secret shows , where they played 21st Century Breakdown in its entirety.

omg. Yeah, they all seem funny, low-key, unpretentious, and grounded. Thus, their longevity and success, I suppose.

I have some friends who saw one of their secret shows. Bummer, I didn't get to go. I'll have to see them live -- although now that I've hung out with them shoulder-to-shoulder, it might be irritating to see them all miniature-like from the grandstand.
