But seriously folks.

I love Karen's voice and The Carpenter's songs always make me go bawl lol while The Mamas and Papas songs have such a happy feeling about them. I'll vote for The Carpenters for Karen.

What he said. I can think of two Carperter's songs I enjoy and even then I've got to limit it.

In spite of the recent news, I'll still take The Mamas and The Papas any day.

I was wondering if the Carpenters were winning by a landside because of what MacKenzie said. lol

The one thing they couldn't do was covers of rock songs ("Beechwood 4-5789", "Please Mr. Postman", "Dancing in the Street", etc.) real well. Otherwise, they were OK, lol.

I wanted to say neither and just say MAMA CASS and DENNY DOHERTY! lol

John & Michelle were just for show. razz

I like both of them well enough, though I'm no expert on either band. I have one greatest hits album from each. I actually happened to listen to the M&P comp yesterday, and I genuinely enjoyed every track on it. I certainly couldn't say the same thing about the Carpenters compilation I have, but I do think their best songs achieve a sort of easy-listening genius. Karen Carpenter's vocals were always very clear, dry & understated; I think that's the quality that raised them above the rest of the 70s-era MOR acts.
