If you take out the ugly part, i agree with most of what you say, ...George was never ugly ... he was when young a very good looking boy/girl! But us brits, had a crop of very good "blue-eyed" soul singers but george does not get into the top ten....sorry! I agree. George was very beautiful back in the 80's. He definitely wasn't ugly then. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like him as a person at all. I've always found him to be very mean and bitchy about other artists and arrogant. I guess it depends on what look you like. He had that feminine androgynous thing whereas George Michael had more of a masculine beauty. I think he did have a good voice back in the 80's. But I see what you're saying. It's not a classicaly great voice with a large range. It is kind of on the thin side, but he did have soul back then. But I agree technically George Michael has and still has a much better voice.

haha, I read that phrase in a Adolf hitler biography. It's a matter of taste after all, but if your nose is ointed and in connection with the eyes he easily looks like a mean person. After all, I think that's what he is. He always told bad thing about George Michael and others, chained a lad...

I agree he doesn't have a great range, but he has soul. Who are his influences? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Xtina, Justin and lady GaGa have always been his biggest influences.

I would guess mj, aretha, marvin, stevie. He would be too arrogant to admit it today though.

I think his greatest influence is Bowie.

He has said that Stevie Wonder and the other Motown artists were some of his biggest influences.

Umm.. not really.
His voice is way too thin and generic to convince me. Give me a Ray LaMontagne, Amos Lee or Van Morrison anytime.

No, not a great singer at all. But still...
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I don't think he has blue eyes. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Let's not and say we did. Seal's 'Soul' album was an embarrassment. Easily the worst thing he's released. If he wants to sing those songs at home, fine. But releasing them . . . not the best move. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

the boy is a very underrated singer and songwriter. cheapness and beauty is one of my favorite albums from the 90s that few have even heard of. Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

Yes, I have it! I love his campiness on it! He seems to have been in a good mood that night. Very playful! If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I'm a fan of Culture Cub but I hate that DVD. George's voice was terrible on it. Some people say he was playful, but he was so rude, cussing out the audience. He clearly was seriously high during the whole performance. Not to mention the horrible outfit he was wearing. One day, I hope he does reunite with Culture Club to atone for that performance. I hear he is off the drugs now, so now maybe he can give give a better performance. That DVD doesn't have their videos. There's another Greatest Hits DVD with all the videos plus a concert from 1983 back when George could actually still sing that all CC fans should buy instead.

He's always been outrageous in dressing up. This wasn't my favorite look either, but at least he wasn't wearing a t-shirt and Levi's! I could be mistaken about the bonus videos, because a friend burned it for me and put it in the original packaging. Regardless, it was the 20th anniversary and for that alone, it's worth seeing. If U are a fan, that is. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I've heard it and it took me a while to adjust to the change in style of his music on this album. After awhile, I grew to love it and it opened me up to his more rock-n-roll taste. Because of that, I grew to like his protoge Amanda Ghost and some of his more underground productions from More Protein and The Twin, which is basically an alias he records under. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Singing is not all about range. We're so concerned with range range range. Celine for example, has great range and can kill a song by overworking that range. There is a lot to be said for being a Vocalist (different from a singer). I'll take sincerity, nuance and style over range any day. Long Live Boy. His voice might not be what it once was live, but I've seen him live and he's not all studio tricks. [Edited 11/1/09 22:17pm]

If U are a fan, that is. Maybe if you're a casual fan, it's worth seeing. But for me as someone who used to be a hardcore fan, it made me almost cry. I saw Culture Club live when they were successful and they were so good. The video to me ruined their legacy. I'd rather then just let me remember when CC and George were good, and not bother doing a new concert if it was going to be like that and ruin my good memories. George was very disrespectful and rude to the other members of the band. He barely allowed them to be shown. I'm not saying he should wear a t shirt and jeans. I like outrageous looks if they are attractive. But what he had on in that video was just ridiculous and ugly. There's outrageous cool and outrageous ridiculous. Not to mention the ugly black makeup he had on his neck. Just his whole persona on that DVD showed me he was out of his mind on drugs. I can't watch it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who actually loves George or CC.
