If I like something I buy it to support the artist and because I want to have it in my collection. I don’t feel that artist need to give their fans something for free to show their appreciation as that has not been the case in the past and plenty are not doing it now. In fact I am pretty sure in the RnB world artist can’t afford to give anything away for free as you have artist making more money off of their ringtone than CDs and we know the ringtones are not free. I am so sorry you still don’t understand that P was talking all that “free stuff “ to piss off WB and the industry in general. Times have changed since 1996. Cd sales are at an all time low and I doubt they are going to return to the high sales of the 80’s. P is not with a major record label anymore; he can’t get his music on traditional radio and apparently had to sign a marketing deal just to get “Better With Time” on the radio. I don’t blame him for charging for his website at all if people want to pay for the content I don’t see why he would not try a make some money off of his music. However, I do think the price is too high and at this point he needs to add much more content or lower the price but, I don’t see anything wrong with artist selling their music on their own sites. Don’t you think the website cost money to run and people running it need to be paid? Or do you expect P to take a financial loss? I am glad you’re a big Trent Renzor fan because I think that guy needs all the fans he can get (LOL) I honestly think he gives away music because he had no audience that would buy it or such a small audience that no major label wants to be bothered but it is good that you are digging what he is doing. If you really think the average person walking down the street knows more Treant Rezor than Prince songs I would call it wishful thinking on your part or perhaps it is just where you live because no one I know gives a shit about Trent Renzor he barely sold any seats the last time he was in the Washington D.C. area and P has sold out the large venues in the D.C. area everything he has been here over the last 10 years sometimes with no CD out at all. The thing is P can be be innovative, cocky, and ballsy as he was doing all those things with the “Rainbow Children” and plenty people did not appreciate it so what is wrong with playing the hits sometimes and doing something different (RC) at other times. I love P’s hits and that fact that he changes the arrangements around all the time which to me is innovative, cocky and ballsy and I hope he keeps on playing them just like The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Kiss and hordes of other rock acts that people pay shit loads of money to go see because I will be right down at the box office getting my tickets and I don’t have to get anything free. Shakira: 'Filesharing is a gift'
Shakira has voiced her opinion on illegal downloading, insisting that it brings her closer to her fans. Despite artists such as Lily Allen recently opposing those who download music illegally, the Colombian singer said that she has a more positive view of the issue. "I like what's going on because I feel closer to the fans and the people who appreciate the music," she told Sky News. "It's the democratisation of music in a way. "And music is a gift. That's what it should be, a gift." I doubt her label have the same point of view. exactly! It costs a lot of money to make an album. Good for Billy for wanting to give it away, but I don't know why music is a product people think they should get for free. My Legacy

I like Mellon Collie too, although it's alot to absorb. Would've been a killer single disc. And there are a few tracks from Adore that I absolutely love... but I think for the most part Billy has sorta lost the plot after that album. But I will check out the new project... sounds interesting. * * *

If you're only interested in a sonic venture, then go ahead and get it because it sounds so much like the era we are discussing but the album is soulless. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I bought Zeitgeist, played it once, and promptly forgot about it... I agree, completely soulless. I was referring to the new project where he's supposedly releasing tracks individually for free - 44 total I believe - and then ultimately will issue 4-track EPs of them all. I'll at least check them out as they come and see how they are... we'll see if he has anything left. * * *

I don't give a fuck about NIN/or Trent Renzor. Your the one going on about his site not me. Your post are not hard to comprehend because it is the same thing over and over again. "Give Me Something Free" which you can't understand as far as P is concerned is not going to happen. It would be in your best interest to get over it and realize we live in a capitalist society and P is a capitalist. You're delirious. I almost thought you were becoming human enough again to have a civil debate with, but alas.....you failed me again, Laura. Kudos for giving it the ol' college try though.

EXACTLY! She's insane if she think I'm always wanting something free from Prince. I've GOT free shit from Prince, via the bootleggers. Concerts, outtakes, videos, etc. We ALL have them. She totally missed the point of anything I said, instead harping on NIN or whathefuckever.

It's just the same as MPLSOUND. Live it sounds much better, mainly Tarantula and Starz. But I agree - when you compare the Zeitgeist to the Siamese Dream, it's soulless.. I like American Gothic EP much more.
