A nice cover, but the original is superior. Luther and Cheryl sound great, of course, but they didn't have the chemistry of Marvin and Tammi. Who did? "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I. Love. This. Song.
Marvin and Tammi were cool, but you all know I loves me some Cheryl. I posted this song on Valentine's Day. It shuffled through while I was cleaning and I stopped and sat down until it was over. Then posted it to share here. Beautiful. Just beautiful. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

This is on my Top 20 Slow Jams mix
I can't explain how much I love this song "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Gotta give it to them, they did a damn good job with this remake. I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

Funny you say that.I was just gonna say that I prefer this version to the original Luther was a master at re-making songs.A few times,he could make you forget the original.

The only way Luther could ever make me forget Marvin is by chopping my head off. His best covers are "A House Is Not a Home" and "If Only for One Night" IMO. Strangely enough, his Songs album was lackluster. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Love the Motown sound and the Detroit Symphony strings in the original and of course Marvin & Tammi sound heavenly (like Lutha & Cheryl).

thanks Timmy loves it! lutha did him justice [Edited 10/19/09 12:11pm] "we make our heroes in America only to destroy them"

Also, Marvin was the sole composer/writer of this beautiful song so I know he inspired Lutha to create his own unique version to it that was equal to Marvin's with his own flair anyways.

Strangely enough, his Songs album was lackluster. I think his best cover is "Superstar".He took a Carpenters classic and made it his OWN! I agree, the 'Songs' CD is surprisingly lackluster. When I first heard that he was doing a remakes album,I thought for sure that it would be brilliant.Unfortunately, that album is a snoozefest. For the first time,he was remaking songs that didn't really need to be re-made,such as "Always And Forever" and "Endless Love".

I agree My mother gets mad at me when I say this, but I think Luther's version of "Since I Lost My Baby" is superior to the Temptations original I also prefer "Superstar" and "If Only For One Night" to the original versions. He was a true master at interpreting old songs, and making them his own.

I'm almost ashamed to admit "Superstar" completely slipped my mind. Yep, that's one of his very best covers. I like his version of "Love the One You're With" enough, but the Isley Brothers already did the definitive cover of that one. In my book, the Isleys and Aretha were better at covers than Luther. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I had no idea that Luther and Cheryl's version of "If This World Were Mine" wasa remake until either 2007 or 2008. In fact, I still haven't heard the original. I can't think of anyone else singing this song except L and C. I LOVE this song. Whenever I play it on my iPod, I always put it on repeat. It's such a beautiful song. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

In addition to Luther covering the song, off the top of my head, I can think of at least three other cover versions - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Bar-Kays and Bobby Lanz & The Celtics.
On the Org since 2005.

A rock group named Slade also covered it.
