I agree.

Is there a song that he has not butchered?

In this case, I wouldn't even say "pop". Hell, Maze never even got a Soul Train award or any other type of award that even acknowledged black music. Have they ever been on the NAACP awards?

YES! Maze NEVER crossed over into the urban audience that well. It was usually a cult thing with Maze because they have a real old school feel to 'em, also a VERY laid-back approach. They didn't appeal to the black kids like Rick James and P-Funk and Cameo did. When Maze debuted, disco and funk dominated black radio and it was hard to really categorize Maze.

Marvin termed it as "Smooth" nod

I've always LOVED Maze, though never realized they hadn't won any awards. But if they haven't, I bet it was probably due to some personal issue. I've always wondered why Cameo hasn't won more awards or been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. If artists like these aren't being recognized for their obvious talents, you know it must be personal.

Do you really think Cameo deserves a place in the RRHOF?

Absolutely! nod Perhaps I'm biased.

True.Anytime you talk to a person who grew up listening
to pop music and you ask them about Cameo, the first and

I even had one guy tell me those were the only hits they had. lol
They will never be inducted into the RRHOF which is cool.
They are legendary without having to have that honor.

I'll grant you that. As if the only song Rick James ever made was "Super Freak".

Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, or sometimes called Frankie Beverly and Maze, are kind of like the Black Grateful Dead, in that they have a cult following and loyal legion of fans but never seem to get that total mainstream acceptance.
I personally have never really been into them, but I know people that will fork over big bucks to attend one of their shows.
Other acts on the bill with them are not always so pleased at the lack of respect shown to them in regards to soundchecks, stage space and time allocation and even the amount of p.a. board available - but oh well.
To get it, you must give it!

Can't really answer the mainstream success question, but I'm surprised that Franky Beverly is not getting much Prince.Org love. Happy Feelings, Can't Get over You, and Golden Time of Day. C'mon now, his music just makes ya feel like everything is gonna be alright.

Do you really think Cameo deserves a place in the RRHOF? They hadn't really had a major impact on pop culture. I don't recall people walking around in red cod pieces and screaming AWW! lol

If there is/was an R&B hall of fame, I would definitely say yes. They have written some of the most influential r&b songs of all time. Not to mention almost every r&b fan knows the words to "Why Have I Lost You".

LOL, oh what a world that would be.

Why should we give a fuck? The only thing that matters is those who love their msuic are supporting them via unit sales, and most importantly via touring. Frankie & 'nem ain't excatly going hungry hmm. They have active, vibrant ,lucrative careers, playing out consistently , doing what they love and sharing live music with thousands every year. Sorry, but I fail to see the issue here lol

You have a very good point. For sure, Frankie, Moose, or any of the other guys don't look like they've missed a meal. . lol

Maze and Luther were very similar to each other. Especially early on. They were selling well, but the mainstream never gave them any awards.

I think a lot of the problem with Maze not achieving major awards was their record company. I don't recall Capital or WB marketing them to the masses on a major level. I think WB tried with Back To Basics, but they failed because of what was going on with Urban music at the time.

Co-sign. It is only issue for people who care about what white folks think
(and don't start screaming racism becuase white people are the majority population in the US and pop music is marketed toward a white audience).

Frankie has a large following, can sign his ass off,has a great band that knows how to play live and he is star as far as I am concerned without the adualation of a white pop audience. In fact I feel sorry for those that miss out on such great RnB bands.

Amen...and again amen. You summed it up for me quite nicely. I never understood the success of this group but in DC, they would sell out the old Washington Convention Center over and over again. You couldn't have given me a ticket to go to any of them...with the exception of them opening for Sade. I would have arrived fashionably late for that one though.

They have a few top 40 pop albums (including 25 and 27.) BUt only for top 100 pop singles, number 67 is their highest with Feel That You're Feelin.

One thing I like about Maze is,they have never "sold out".They have stayed true to their style. No rappers on their songs,no trendy gimmicks,no lame samples, just good old fashioned soul and funk jams.I think that's the reason for their longevity.

When was the last time they released a new song? Not counting the new cd of covers.

The Brothers soundtrack in the late 90s.
