BonJovi out to break Prince's Record of 21 Nights - Are you happy about that? If MJ, broke it then ok, Stevie then ok, but Bon F**k Jovi, i hate that, i really wish they don't do it, can't see them doing 22 nights ...will make me sick...just a big money making con .....
Living on a prayer .... Bon Jovi to take up residency at O2 Arena With 2,600 concerts under their belt since they formed in Sayreville, New Jersey, 26 years ago, Bon Jovi have probably filled more stadiums in their time than any other rock band. Now the group that opened London's O2 Arena to mark its conversion from the Millennium Dome are to take up residency there. They will become the first act since Michael Jackson to schedule an extended series of shows at the venue. The King of Pop's sudden death left 750,000 fans disappointed and a 50-date hole in the O2's calendar. AEG, which is owned by the US billionaire Philip Anschutz, will be hoping to recoup some of its lost £300m by bringing one the world's most assured seat-fillers to the UK next June. Organisers still had to confirm how many shows the rockers intended to perform. Rob Hallett, of residency promoter AEG Live, said: "When Jon Bon Jovi opened the 02 with the words, 'Hello London, welcome to your new home', little did he realise that we were already plotting to make it his new home. Bon Jovi are the best live band in the world. This one could run and run." Tickets for Bon Jovi's O2 residency – part of The Circle Tour – will go on sale on 30 October http://www.independent.co...07630.html [Edited 10/29/09 10:08am] Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! Aw man, who wants to see Bon Jovi? Yuck.
It would be awesome if P decided to do another stint at the o2, doubt he will though, the effort might do him in. 'Sex is not all I think about, it's just all I think about... you.'

Why is it a big enough issue to be "upset" or "happy" about either way? Bon Jovi is still huge. They have a lot of momentum going at the moment w/ their documentary on Showtime (playing endlessly), and touring, and now the 02 shows.
Prince isn't the only person to ever have a residency at 02, or any other arena. People have been doing multiple gigs at arenas or stadiums for years. Bruce Springsteen did 10 straight nights at Giants Stadium. If someone did 11, would Bruce fans "not be happy about that"? Renkitsune, like them or not, Bon Jovi is bigger than Prince, especially in recent years with record sales, sell out tours filling HUGE areas/stadiums. Jon has diversified the Bon Jovi brand, and his own business ventures will keep him in $100 bill toilet paper until he dies.

they won't do more shows than prince, it's just the usual AEG bullshit to try and get people to buy the first load of tickets. bon jovi aren't popular enough in the uk to sell out 20 nights in the o2, they haven't had a hit record since about the 80s over here and they aren't the kind of band to have a hardcore fanbase like prince does in europe (ie. the same 10,000 fans going to every night of the tour - imagine hearing bon jovi play the same songs in the same arrangement every night)

Do your home work next time. Jon himself writes out a set list every night a few hours before the show, and it's rarely the same order. The set list is freely varied since the band are rehearsed and ready to play whatever song from their vast catalog. The arrangements are often different, especially more popular songs like "Living On A Prayer", "It's My Life", and more. He does a "quiet" version of "Hallelujah" that is incredible. Talk about the same arrangements? How about the constantly abbreviated "Let's Go Crazy" from Prince? On Rave he shortened it to a verse, chorus, solo, and ending solo. Then by a few years later, he had shortened it to the solo and some stupid "GOOOOO crazy" chant. And let's not forget the ever NOT-wonderful "Take Me With U"/"Raspberry Beret" medley that reeks of "YUCK". Prince has been playing the same songs for years. How many songs from "Musicology" did he play on that tour? How many from Planet Earth or even 3121 did he play over the course of 21 nights at the 02? He opened one show w/ "Planet Earth". He played guitar 2 or 3 times. He might have played "The 1 U Wanna C" once, IIRC. And don't tell me that he wasn't at the 02 for 21 nights to NOT promote PE or 3121. He directly references 3121 by the very fact that he did 21 nights. He gave away PE in the paper in....oh right.....the UK. What did he play though? The same songs that everyone has heard a million and one times. He's bee on a Greatest Hits tour for years.

Bon jovi can't sell out that many shows and their blue collar following isn't exactly going to pack up the kids and fly to London during summer vacation. Haven't they heard most Americans are broke and not spending on luxury items. Prince did his shows right before everthing went to hell financially and it worked for him but I doubt many Americans would do it now considering the economy. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Last I heard, the 02 was in London, not America. Who said that Americans filled the 02 for 21 nights of Prince's old songs? You think people from the UK, France, and surrounding countries weren't the majority of people who traveled to see those shows? Think again. Bon Jovi knows where their markets are, and where their fans are, and they wouldn't book a ton of shows somewhere that they knew they couldn't fill and reap the profits from a string of shows.

The same songs that everyone has heard a million and one times. He's bee on a Greatest Hits tour for years. i had tickets for ALL the prince shows, and every night was different. of the setlist, approximately half of it had the same tracks every night, and the other half changed from night to night. for nearly the first half of the residency he opened the show with a different song every night, for the remaining nights he still varied the opening track about half the time even the songs he did play every night, he varied the arrangements of a number of them, so you weren't hearing the same songs sounding the same every night. prince is one of the few acts to be able to change the arrangement of a song from night to night and get away with it and after playing the main shows he did a number of aftershows with an entirely differnt set to the main show, and a different set every night you wouldn't get anything like that with bon jovi, each song is going to sound the same every night, the running order might be different, but you're still going to hear living on a prayer every night. they wouldn't get away with playing a tour without playing that song, but prince can get away without playing kiss or purple rain as he has too many hits and not enough time, cuz he has to fill a quarter of the show with cover versions instead. you wouldn't get bon jovi playing a quarter of the show with cover versions of aerosmith songs would you? i'm sure most bon jovi fans would be dissapointed and bored if they didn't play all the hit's, whereas prince fans get bored and dissapointed when he does play his hits

Apart from knowing the lead singer Bon Jovi has long blond hair I couldn't tell you one song of theirs. Haven't heard their music in donkeys years and never liked it anyway. I suppose they are desperate to put anyone in at 02 with a long residency after Michael didn't make it. Am I happy about it? I couldn't really care Bon jovi is about as interesting to me as washing detergent. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

HonestMan13 said: ernestsewell said: You're fully entitled to be wrong. S'ok. Somebody's getting butt hurt again. [Snip - luv4u] I'm not butt hurt at all. I'm not a huge Bon Jovi fan (as I'm not a huge NIN fan, as stated in another thread). I made some statements that you disagreed with. You made a statement about the AMERICAN economy, and Prince's run in THE UK. Two totally different things. Although there were some American's probably flying to the UK to see Prince at the 02, they were NOT the majority of people in that arena for 21 nights. The Brits, the French, the Germans, the Spaniards, the Italians....everyone from that area went there as well to fill that arena for 21 nights. Total conglomerate of people. If the subject was Madison Square Garden, then the argument of "bad economy" etc would definitely apply. Could Bon Jovi, Prince or anyone fill MSG for 21 nights? 50 nights? Would Bon Jovi's blue collar fans buy multiple nights of tickets to see the band over and over? However many nights as a residency while people are still struggling to just survive? Who knows. But we're talking about the UK, and the 02 arena, not America. THAT is the difference. You talked as though Bon Jovi couldn't sell out a foreign venue for even a night, much less a longer run. Bon Jovi, as much as Prince, is an international band, they're not "local" in that regard. Do your homework. It's odd how big some bands are over seas in the strangest of places. Place that people would never suspect of ANY American band being huge. Look at how ridiculously popular Iron Maiden is in places like Brazil or in the Middle East. That's totally weird to me, but it happens, so I have to acknowledge that. Denying it doesn't make it not exist or go away. You don't have to like Bon Jovi. Frankly, I think Jon takes himself too seriously sometimes, and that annoys the fuckery out of me with any artist. I think I own Slippery When Wet on vinyl, but even that was from a garage sale. I don't own Bon Jovi CDs, and have very few Bon Jovi songs on mp3 or whatever. But I also recognize their extraordinarily HUGE fan base, and the fact that they DO sell out stadiums, arenas, and a fucking desert if they wanted, over and over. Prince sold out the 02, not only because he's a huge star, but because he hadn't toured a lot of Europe in recent years. People from all over Europe came to see him because they just didn't have the chance before, or hadn't in a very, very long time, for what could possibly be one last time (aside from his appearances on TV or at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, which are great gigs).

Funny stuff. "Goooo Crazy!!" ----- Yes, it is quite hysterical that Bon Jovi is being defended. Anything to hate on anything good P has accompolished. Wow .. not everyone on here is brainwashed.... http://www.entertainmenta...9102821585 Making one’s way from the series of concerts, the American rock band Bon Jovi are set to perform at the O2 Arena in London next year. In spite of the fact that the band has not revealed the length of their run, it is expected to rival the 21 days of shows which Prince played in 2007. .....
“Bon Jovi are the best live band in the world. This one could run and run,” BBC News quoted AEG Live promoter Rob Hallett as saying. The concerts, to begin in June next year, will mark Bon Jovi’s return to the London venue, after they opened it in 2007. “When Jon Bon Jovi opened the O2 with the words, ‘Hello London, welcome to your new home’, little did he realize that we were already plotting to make it his new home,” said Hallett. The O2 gigs will be part of the group’s Circle Tour named after their forthcoming album and will be their only European dates of 2010. Eventually late Michael Jackson was supposed to play a record-breaking run of 50 dates at the O2 this summer but passed away before the shows began. On 2nd November, the band – Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres have sold 120 million albums and will release their latest album, The Circle. According to Billboard magazine, they have performed more than 2,600 concerts to 34 million fans in over 50 countries and notched up the highest-grossing tour of 2008 with takings of $210 million. Oh Laura, you try so hard, yet you've failed. The original question is "Are you happy about that?" in regards to Bon Jovi doing a stint of gigs at the 02. Why is it a question at all? Are Prince fans going to get all butt hurt if Bon Jovi does 22 shows? The original poster said it's "money making con". I don't remember Prince doing it for free. Their post was very anti-Jovi, which is fine. They don't have to like Bon Jovi, but the bigger question is why does anyone give a fuck of any artist takes up residency at any arena. Perhaps residency gigs are becoming a norm, rather than the exception. It's not about defending Bon Jovi, it's about people thinking Prince is the end all and be all of anything he does. Half his music is copied from Santana, James, and Sly. His arrangements in concerts are indicative of the same. Yes, he's an original in many regards, but he's rarely set the trend in the past 20 years. Other artists have a bigger, and MUCH more positive, web presence than Prince has had. If this was supposed to be a I Hate Bon Jovi thread, then name it as such, but to pull the 02 thing out of the press to compare apples to oranges is ridiculous. But no one is shitting on Prince's accomplishment at the 02. Logic states (if your logic is NOT firmly planted on the tip of your nose, which is firmly planted up Prince's chocolate starfish) that there's not only room for everyone to accomplish big things like that, but that others will besides Mr. Nelson, possibly trumping the "record" he sets, but not diminishing the accomplishment itself. The bigger question is, who DO You like? You don't like Bon Jovi it seems, you can't even man up and acknowledge Nine Inch Nails' popularity, fan base, extraordinary success, etc. But hey.....if you're happy listening to "Love Like Jazz" on repeat, knock yourself out.
