I'm listening to "All is Fair in Love." And, I'm floored once again by Stevie's command of melody, dynamics, musicianship and -- most important -- lyrics.

Prince is bad. The dude wrote "Pink Cashmere," "Empty Room" and hundreds of other gems.

But, at the risk of sounding dismissive of Prince as a writer, I think even he would have to acknowledge that the top of his game (arguably SOTT) is leagues below Stevie's SITKOL.

And, when it comes to social contributions as a songwriter, Stevie's a veritable giant. Maybe it's reflective of their respective perspectives, but I dig Stevie's "A Time to Love" as a social commentary. What's Prince's most recent one? "Resolution?" "Colonized Mind?" Really? Mmm'kay...

Prince is a visionary, can u say the same about Stevie Wonder?

Yeah, but the same genius who wrote the masterpiece You and I also wrote the unforgivable I Just Called To Say I Love You.

They've both produced their share of masterpieces. They each bring their own sensibilities and goals to what they do.

They each have skills that outshine the other. I'm just glad that they're my two favorite musical artists of all time and that I've lived to enjoy their supreme brilliance, the occasional Jughead aside.

D&P is superior serving of syrup by virtue of its arrangement and vocal harmonies. Sweet, but not too much so.

Stevie Wonder for me is just the ultimate. I'm sure others see the same thing with Prince. But for me... Stevie just runs the spectrum of styles I love and much like Prince, I'm absolutely floored when I see him live and you can just tell that his albums don't need tons of doctoring because he's the real deal.

I say it all the time, but once you cross a certain threshold of greatness (a threshold which both Prince and Stevie have crossed), the rest is just up to individual taste.

Prince's command of different genres gives him the edge for me over Stevie.
