MJ starred in The Wiz,Capitan EO, but Purple Rain was about Prince. MJ had his moments on the big screen, but never to that degree.
Do you think MJ was upset that he never had a "Purple Rain.? Is that why he asked P to duet with him on "Bad."??
I would have killed to hear a demo of that!!!

MJ was obsessed with Prince doing Purple Rain. He even bugged Robert Hilburn about it.

Thriller wasn't enough to surpass PR. "Thriller" was innovative for its time, but a year later, Prince took that grown of rock videos/movies and people forgot all about "Thriller", for a while.

Joe Jackson used to say that MJ, and even himself, were made that "they never gave him a movie". I think MJ creating mini movies as videos, and having big directors like John Landis, Martin Scorcese, and others, direct his videos was his way of compensating for it, on some subconscious level. Captain EO was really a one off thing for Disney. It was a good way to do a really big music video, and make a lot of money, but it wasn't ever meant to be a Purple Rain type gig.

It is sad that MJ never had his PR movie. He did have his PR album though, and it was Thriller. Madonna had Like A Prayer as far as albums go.

The "Thriller" mini-movie was MJ's Purple Rain. No one ever topped that. There was actually nothing "mini" about it, except the running time.
