This link above to this blog breaks down the true
essence of the group and where it all went wrong...
muscially that is.

Here's the link to the discussion we had a couple of
weeks ago about The Sylvers. I for one have never thought
the comparison between the Jackson's vs the Slyvers
was an accurate nor a fair one to make.

i was about eight at the time this song came out and i remember it very fondly, and had the 45 in the photo. i have it on my ipod now, cause it is STILL bangin' all these years later!

i loooooved the sylvers, more than the j5 for a minute (though i was dancin' along to dancin' machine a year later just like everyone else, too!), but i can't really say how widespread any rivalry or competition was between the groups. as i said in another thread, in retrospect, the sylvers in the end became also rans rather quickly though i still love this tune, 'wish that i could talk to you' and 'boogie fever', and their album material from their pre-disco phase is good, too.

You seem around the same age has me, but with the passing of Michael Jackson, I find myself more than ever looking back to the early/mid 70s and just reminiscing about that whole era, the music, the afro, the clothes practically everything. It's like I am stuck in my childhood again.
