Jean Beauvoir "feel the heat"

Love me some Jean Beauvoir. Crown of thorns (a melodic rock band he was lead singer for in the 90's) were cool too.

He always had a cool look. "Feel the heat" was off the Stallone "Cobra" OST but was also included on his good, not great album "Drums Along the Mohawk" aswell.

It does LOL? I can hear a slight resemblence, but not much lol

Its high tech AOR/pop to me. Good production (by himself) aswell.

The album (well the CD version anyway), is long out of print. But it has a few cool songs though.

The late Tony Thompson (drummer from Chic) and Micki Free were also part of Jean's band

Yeah, that was his Crown of Thorns project. The album ("21 thorns") was cut in the early 90's I think? But Interscope, thanks ot Grundge, refused to release their debut. Luckily the album did get released in the UK in the mid 90's and Iam sure Europe aswell, where melodic rock still had (and has) an audience.

Tony and Micki are not on all the tracks off their debut, but are on most of them though.

Of course, Tony Thompson is all over this one. Even I can tell thats him based purely on some production and playing he did for other people in the mid-late 80's:-

His drumming is very recognizable.

Hell yeah! Jean is an unsung talent, I think. Very underrated. I remember the cat when he was with Wendy and The Plasmatics. He had some cool material. Even hooked up one of the tightest drummers in the biz, Tony Thompson.

I just noticed, Tony Thompson is not in the video for "are you ready?", but I asure you that is him on drums. I think after the album originally got canned, so he and Micki probably went on to do something else. A shame really, but at least the album did get released.

Micki Free co-wrote "are you ready?" with Jean bytheway.

Yes, VERY much so. I always site Tony as one of the best drummers. He reminded me of John Bohnam of Zeppelin. Their styles are very distinctive.

I loved what must be Tony's (no credit on record) phat drumming on jacksons track "time out (for the burglar)" (Bernie Edwards produced it, and it sure sounds like Tony to me).

(dont like the extended version, but its all I could find)

Talking of John Bonham, Jason Bonham ain't no slouch either. His drumming on "wait for you" stands out for example.

Never heard this before. Thanks. Not as good though. I love the Jean's production on "feel the heat". Real digital and harsh. Very 80's LOL.

I definately agree about Tony being on "Time Out" being that it sounds like Tony to me as well. Nile and Bernard usually would use Tony on their productions, i.e. Tony on Bowie's Let's Dance, Madonna's "Like A Virgin", etc.

Jason is a chip off the old block, no doubt about it. He has the same hard but in the pocket style of drumming that his dad had. I actually got to see the band Bonham play when their first album came out. It was packed! I thought they were cool. Much harder than how they came across in their video. I loved their first single too. I thought they were going to do some things but that's the biz.

Yeah Iam a big fan of their debut album. With Bob Ezrin producing you cant go far wrong no matter who it is though LOL. I guess their album got lost in the shuffle. Definately an album that seemed to cost alot though. BIG production.

Heres a weird one. Bernie Edwards produced most of Air Supply's bomb album "Hearts in motion" from 1986. Anyway, heres Tony again. Album is pretty poor and the glove just doesn't fit. I love some of Bernie's production work for others, but he doesn't quite gel with Air Supply.

Still, heres a decent track from the album. I like the bass on the verses and of course, Tony's drums.

Odd combo LOL. Air Supply with Bernie and Tony. Shows how in demand Bernie Edwards was at the time as Air Supply were still quite big then.

biggrin Yep, excellent example. It also shows just how versatile Bernard and Niles were. As well as Tony.

I like to think Bernie working with Air Supply was him trying to beat David Foster at his own game LOL. Decent attempt, but the Air Supply album is marred by weak songs more than anything else. But Bernie (along with Tony of course), pulled it off on "put love in your life". I like the added string flourishes Berine added aswell. A little odd, but it works.

I've been meaning to look into Little Steven's albums. Thansk for reminding me.

Jean sure did get around LOL, but he can seem to do everything (to an extent). Sing, play guitar, produce, mix etc... Shame he never had a solo hit to put him over the top.
