Babs Shockers Top Album Of The Week/ Makes History| Mariah Comforts Self By Riding A Unicorn Barbra Streisand fans are certainly a devoted bunch. Today they’ve put Babs atop the Billboard 200 with a healthy 180,000 copies sold of her jazz standards album Love Is the Answer, according to Nielsen SoundScan, beating a host of new releases by buzzier artists. By way of comparison, that’s equivalent to every one of the die-hard fans who attended Barbra’s recent gig at NYC’s Village Vanguard club going out and buying 1,800 copies of her new record. Not bad at all.
This week’s list of distinguished also-rans begins with Paramore, whose pop-punk star will no doubt continue to rise now that they’ve taken No. 2 on the chart by selling 175,000 copies of their acclaimed brand new eyes. At No. 3, it’s Mariah Carey, with 168,000 copies sold of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. That result might be the most noteworthy thing on this chart, actually — 168K is a nice number, to be sure, but I wonder how Mariah must feel about coming in third place to Paramore and Barbra. http://music-mix.ew.com/2...ore-chart/ [Edited 10/7/09 12:55pm] Space for sale...

Babs makes history too: Barbra is the first singer to have a #1 album in 5 separate decades: 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's! Space for sale...

She only made #4 in the UK Album Chart:

If this isn't a sign for Mariah to immediately leave Def Jam, I don't know what it will take. This is embarrassing for Mariah to debut at #3 with such a low number of sales. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I am loving Babs having yet another #1 album. Like a fine wine! It's a beautiful album. As for Mariah...it's quite low for her but it's a very mellow album...I actually really like it but it doesnt have a 'Honey' or 'Fantasy' on the album to create such a buzz. Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Why? She can only blame herself you know They are a label they can do what they can do. I mean seriously if an artist honestly says they are putting there "art" in someones hands like a label exec and trusting them to know what to do, they are fools. I mean LA Reid is a guy who didnt know what to do with Qtip's cd, so be real, label execs are no smarter than joe on the street corner, it is what it is. As Dennis DeYoung said in a new interview, its either a good record or a shit record, good song bad song, the rest is for the statmasters to track and play with themselves with. MC is 40 her compulsion to be "down" is TIRED, and i know people are thinking, why does she have to do boring music. FIRST of all A-holes, just because you are 40 doesnt mean you have to do dreary ballads, it does MEAN that you have to be true to what you feel, MC may be feeling like a kid, and thats great, but there needs to be that SANE seperation, and she is on the line of missing that seperation, where she comes off as someone desperately trying to be 15. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I agree. I just don't get why her fans are trying to make excuses for her She got a lot of promotion, tons of airplay and a top 10 hit. But still debuted at #3 and sold 168K. And I agree that La Reid is just clueless! I swear! After what he did with Arista he shouldn't even be able to run a label! He screwed Janet over with Discipline but she still managed to debut at #1 and sell 181K first week. But instead of pushing for promotion he cut her money and left her in mid air. And she started paying for her own expenses and eventually asked to be released. I see he has a lot of hope in Mariah though since he's pushing a remix album. I mean wake the f--k up! It's not 1991 anymore! It will flop like this album!

Congrats to Barbra. I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

The thing is that i am a fan, but i have slowly lost interest in her, shes sexy, etc, but even that now is just, "Ok youre hot, butwhat else you got" The weekend before the cd's release when i bought it at this store in NYC that i have been getting imports and new releases from (pre street date) for almost 2 decades now, the guy that runs the place was showing me new stuff that came in and i had the Mariah and put it down on the counter and some other people came in that had been there before, and this girl looked at the Mariah cd and said "This is new? it looks like the last 4", and that sums it up, nothing more to say "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I'm not a big fan, but saw some of her recent TV concert and she still sounds great. Hadn't really lost a step, vocally, or as an entertainer. but...she should not rock the cleavage anymore!! you too mariah! My Legacy
