Something everyone is missing in their posts about the state of music....

We've had tons of threads about talent, where to find new music, labels suck, artists just look good they dont sound good etc...

But what everyone seems to miss is that there is no competition in todays market at all. At a time where music sales are declining quicker than the stock market you would think there would be competition. Now i know some people are saying there is so much out there, so much because of the net. you know what FUCK THE NET, im really tired of hearing about it and people using it as a holy grail.

Way back in the 80's and before competition was at a high, take 1988 for example, you could have singles from Prince, michael,Janet,Madonna,George Michael, Guns N Roses, Richard Marx,Expose,Taylor Dayne,Debbie Gibson,Bruce Springsteen,Aretha Franklin,Lionel Richie ALL dropping albums at the same time, all having 3-5 singles a record at the same time.

Today what do you get, you get this excuse "im going to wait till 2010 to put out my new record, because so and so is dropping in November" WHAT??? The excuse that people if face with 6 great albums will buy only 2 is BULLSHIT, but everyone buys that reasoning and this is why you get that one album out there, and you get bombarded with the imagery of one artist nonstop that you just want them to drop off the face of the earth.

Years ago artists challenged each other by just putting out music, not these EMPTY challenges from a Kanye West, that are nothing more than Hype builders as opposed to talent builders. Those of you who praise U2's "Zooropa, and Achtung Baby" should not thank u2, you should thank INXS who pushed the envelope on their albums X, Welcome to Wherever, and Full Moon Dirty hearts, this pushed BONO into a new realm of experimenting, and he has admitted it to.

But today there is no challenge to rise above another, there is sometimes a bullshit claim to sell more, but who cares, then there are the claims to be the new MJ or Beatles or this or that. Thats not how you challenge, you cant compete against what is DONE already, you compete against what is being done, and yourself as Prince would say.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

clapping Damn right! We didn't have to search for good music back in the day and we shouldn't have to search for it now. And until there's good music back on the radio, bitch on people, bitch on. Hell, we've got to entertain ourselves somehow since music is no longer entertaining. evillol

good music, bad music its all the same.
people should either listen to what they want to listen or to create their own type of music. whatever, what makes people decide what is going to be aesthetically pleasing for others..music is music..but sometimes music is not music at all.
