I like her stuff. I found her East-meets-West approach to songcrafting nice before it became hackneyed after "Uninvited." Her sophomore effort was the bomb. Imago, I blame you for the Alanis marathon this thread will surely start me on.

And, for all the seriousness usually associated with her, Alanis doesn't get enough credit for her sense of humor: "On the Tequila" from "Flavors..." was one of the coolest gag songs I've ever heard.

Here we go again with sales determining if you are finished or not? I think the artist decides if they are done with what they want to do, not the audience. She still records and tours and does what she wants to do, are the 15 million still there buying her that bought "pill" no, but neither are the 24 million that Bought Purple Rain, deal with it, all artists have their "they all love me" time, for some its just for one single, for some an album, for some 3-4 albums. For someone like PRINCE though no one ever admits this, he really was NEVER a strong seller, hes consistent, but if you take out Purple Rain from the mix, that is why the older stuff sold, and why the next stuff sold, he pretty much has always had a loyal following, as she does as pearl jam does as rem does, its called longevity.

I couldn't agree with you more!

confuse I think 1992's Now Is The Time is her worst.

Although at the time I really liked "An Emotion Away".

lol Man, I meant her "popular"/reinvented sophomore effort, "SFIJ." Loved that album when it came out.

Don't bother. It's all about her 1991 album "Alanis"

Not only my favorite Alanis songs, it's one of my favorite pop songs ever.

The lyrics resonated so strongly with me in 2007.

Okay, first the bad news. The great Alanis Morissette is currently without a record deal. Incredible when you consider just how huge Jagged Little Pill was. That and Unplugged were two of the best albums of the 90s by a mile. In the 00s she made the mistake of trying to produce herself and seemed to lose it completely. Last year she corrected the problem and hired Guy Sigsworth to produce Flavors of Entanglement. He did a great job. The album features 5 of the best songs of her career. Unfortunately the album only had one potential hit single on it ("In Praise of the Vulnerable Man") and the fools didn't release it. The single they chose instead ("Underneath") actually misled me into thinking the album would be another disappointment. A shame.

So commercially it's over, but she'll always be able to tour I think. Her music can be so great that I really hope there's more to come. Preferably with a great producer like Guy Sigsworth. I don't want her to go back to the bad production that marred her previous efforts.

Alanis is definitely one of a kind and probably the most underrated artist of her age group (at least that I'm aware of).

She's far from annoying to me though,,,,,I'd settle with her instead of these phony wannabes.

I'm saying!!!! Since jump I thought that that song would be a commercial hit and was expecting them to release it. It's a great song and would have done well on radio.
