Celebrity disk-jockey DJ AM was found dead in SoHo today, sources told NBC New York. He was 36 years old.

The body of DJ AM, also known as Adam Goldstein was found on the seventh floor of an apartment building 215 Lafayette, law-enforcement sources said.

Goldstein barely escaped death in a small plane crash in South Carolina on Sept. 19, 2008.

The details of his demise are still unclear.

According to TMZ:

Law enforcement sources tell us DJ AM -- also known as Adam Goldstein -- was found dead this afternoon in New York City.

Sources tell us he was found in his apartment at around 5:20 PM. We're told drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.

We're told DJ AM had not been seen or heard from for a few days -- one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door.

We're told the friend called the police, who broke down the door and then found DJ AM's body.

Back in September of 2008, DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Four people died in the crash -- which was caused when the airplane aborted takeoff and then ran off the runway. DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.

According to one report, the 'drug paraphenalia' were prescription drug bottles.

Maybe he was still having problems dealing with the trauma over the plane crash. Could've been suicide or an accident, unless he left a note, which I haven't heard about yet.

I was out for dinner with my brother earlier tonight when he got the call about this. Adam was a friend, and they were together just over a week ago so he's pretty upset about it. Adam was one of the nicest guys he had ever met, and he mentioned that he had been a bit concerned about his health and that he was having a real hard time dealing with the plane crash - he had finally just started to fly again.

Because he struggled in the past he was very straight edge, did not do drugs and didn't even drink for years now so my bro finds it hard to believe that he was found with a crack pipe, but you never know...people hide addiction all the time. He knows that he was on a lot of prescription drugs, so he thinks it probably was an overdose on those.

RIP Adam.

Damn. This is really sad, but I could see if he overdosed on prescription drugs. He survived the plane crash but had burns over 50% of his body when he was found along with Travis Barker. I'm sure between all of the pain medications he had to take plus the emotional trauma of surviving such a horrible accident knowing that nearly all of the other passengers died, he probably was on anti-anxiety medications as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the combo of drugs probably did him in. R.I.P. DJ AM.

It must have been from needing more painkillers to help him recover from the accident, and he accidentally OD'd.

alot of times when addicts relapse they think they can do the same amount they did before they quit. their bodies have lost the tolerance and the outcome isn't what they expected.
