Z Cult Question/ Which 5 Do Ya'll Think Should Be Inducted In The 2010 R&R Hall Of Fame?

Oh and right out the gate, huge props to 2009's Inductees,...Jeff Beck, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Metallica, my main man Bobby Womack, Run DMC, Bill Black, Wanda Jackson, DJ Fontana and Spooner Oldham. I'm hella excited about 2010's list of folks who are nominated though. Some of my faves are on this list; KISS, (a major fave of mine) Donna Summer (another major fave of mine), ABBA, (another major fave of mine), The Stooges (another fave), The Red Hot Chilli Peppers (another fave), Jimmy Cliff (another fave), LL Cool J (a true legend in the rap genre), Genesis (who is really cool, especially when they had Peter Gabriel) Laura Nyro, Darlene Love, The Chantels and The Hollies. (who I also dig). Only five can get in. Who are your picks out of the 12 mentioned for 2010?

Personally I would love for these 5 to get in now:
Donna Summer
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Stooges
The Chantels
The Hollies

But I think they'll eventually induct these:
Donna
KISS
The Stooges
LL Cool J
The Chantels
Darlene Love

-- The Chantels may take the Wanda Jackson route and Darlene may be 2010's Little Anthony getting in. hmmm

Yeah brah,..she is definately worthy. Hell, all 12 are worthy. I hadn't seen a list like this in a long time where I saw so many folks on there that I personally dug.

Oh shit.... No, for real though, Hall & Oates were no joke. Both them and Journey had major hits during both the 70's and the 80's. KISS, from 76-78, were one of the biggest bands on the planet! And they have hung in there through different members, through the make up, wearing it and then taking it off for years. Only to put it back on again! It was a long time coming but yeah, as much as I would like to see them get in, I can STILL see them getting overlooked.

Donna Summer
The Stooges
Jimmy Cliff
Laura Nyro,
The Hollies

I’d really only go to the mat for the Stooges out of that bunch, but I think they’re all worthy enough.

If the hall is going to start to acknowledge prog, then I think Yes would have been a better selection. Leaving aside Jon Anderson’s sissy-boy vocals, they made better records for a longer length of time IMO, and when they did ‘sell out’ (whatever that means) they made more interesting commercial hits. That’s not to suggest that this ought to be a zero-sum game where only one act of that sort can be given their due at one time, but I’d expect some kind of filter that only allows recognition of one punkish act, one r&b-ish act & so on is in effect.

I think the Chili Peppers. who I dig, will get in next time...It's too soon for them...Kiss? Gene Simmons doesn't help their case....Like I said in another post, when Kiss started selling "Kiss tampons" and coffins (lol), it took away any chance (which was already slim) from them getting into the Hall.....

Man, this same kind of shit was happening to KISS in their heyday. When they were at their peak in 78, the KISS merchandising went into overdrive. The lunchbox, KISS dolls and pinball machine (which I think is hella cool) was taken warmly but then the market was flooded with everything from sleeping bags to Kiss Make Up kit. What happened were they became over exposed. At that time, they were huge but then from all of their products with the KISS brand on everything, it turned off MANY of their hardcore fan base. Which were not little kids but people in their teens and early to mid 20's. People who were already into KISS from 74. They weren't into all of the toys and so forth. The KISS comic books wich was first released in 77, that was cool. But with the combination of everything else, definately by late 78 and 79, many of their o.g. fan base had split. And it was largely to do with the heavy merchandising that flooded the market in 78.

As much as I dig the Peppers, I was kinda surprised to see them mentioned this early in the game. They have definately had a strong output of albums over the years since their debut in 84. But you have bands like Fishbone, who the Peppers, to a large extent, based themselves after, may forever get overlooked. And Fishbone is one hella band, combining damn near every genre known to man into their sound. I know Fishbone hasn't sold as many albums as the Peppers and I do think that comes into play with who they select. Fishbone and the Peppers, both L.A.bands, reminds me so much of Love and The Doors, both also L.A bands. Like Fishbone and the Peppers, who all of the members loved the hell out of Fishbone, Jim Morrison idolized Arthur Lee, the leader of Love, and based The Doors concept largely on that of Love. But while The Doors became world known superstars and is still seen as pioneers in rock, Love is far less well known.

I remember when I was younger, I used to go see Fishbone play all the time at The Whiskey and this was before the Peppers had an album out. But you would see Anthony, Hillel and Flea at their shows and Anthony has sated that Fishbone was a major influence on their sound, mixing genres especially. Although both were influenced by Parliament-Funkadelic.

Kiss still has all kinds of merch for sale to this day! I saw this interview with Paul Stanley and he said something like other bands wanted to be the Beatles, but Kiss wanted to be Coca-Cola!

my RRHOF pics:
Kiss
Stooges (I'd even have Iggy in as a solo act!)
Chili Peppers
LL
Donna Summer

I'd have picked Genesis, but the RRHOF doesn't seem to like much prog-rock (no Rush or Yes nominations yet) or 80's pop (I know Madonna is in, but what about Hall and Oates?).

BTW- I think Cheap Trick and the New York Dolls should have each been nominated by now.

I really agree with this sentiment....Especially the New York Dolls who were a huge influence on KISS. So much so, their responsible for the band name KISS. Paul has stated that he came up with the name KISS because of the New York Dolls song "Looking Fo A Kiss". But then you move on down with the band name KISS influencing the group Chic. Nile also has stated that he and Bernard came up with their band name Chic from the band name KISS! Speaking of Chic, they were nominated in 08 for induction. That was the fifth time they were nominated for inclusion. I say they definately belong in there. but as I mentioned earlier, bands like Journey, who OWNED the power ballad, as sucessful and popular as they were in the 70's and 80's,..I don't know what more thay needed to do. They had one of the best male rock vocalists ever in Steve Perry.

I read that Peter Criss and NY Dolls' drummer Jerry Nolan were friends, and I knew both bands had done shows together in their early days, but I didn't know that Kiss got their name from "Looking For A Kiss". I sure didn't know about Chic getting their name from Kiss!

BTW--Chic should be in the HOF, too. I'd actually have them in before Donna Summer.

I think there's some kind of thing the HOF has against something against certain 70s rock...no Boston, Styx, Foreigner, or Journey so far.

I think the HOF voters are mostly music writers and critics. So they might be holding a grudge against certain bands on giving them nominations, even if the band is or was popular with fans.

No you got music snobs in the committee. Plus some fans of classic acts be openly complaining about why their act isn't inducted so sometimes the committee gotta cut through their snobbery, that's why the list looks so good. CHIC will be in next year if Donna gets inducted.
