Definitely not my favorite song by them. For some reason, I didn't care for KATG too much after the "Something Special" album.

All the albums 1979-1986 with JT on lead vocals are great! I even like their 1995 reunion album "STATE OF AFFAIRS", KOOL & THE GANG without JT just ain't the same.

Some people around here will kill you for saying that.

I like the albums pre-JT (that I've heard). Wild and Peaceful is PERFECT on so many different levels.

JT was definitely their best lead singer.Unless he returns to the band,I wouldn't go see Kool and The Gang in concert these days.

I remember it aired on HBO, edited like hell of course, but I have a copy of the show in its entirety. Is the whole show on youtube?

And don't forget about Spirit Of The Boogie. The title track was so far ahead of it's time:

"Tonight" is definately my favorite from the group during that era of their career. I always hated "Misled" and "Joanna".

"Misled" is a classic! I love that song. It's a cleverly written pop song, with a cool rock edge to it.One of their finest 80s singles.

I agree, Andy. I didn't care for those songs either.

I do like the remix of Cherish, but not a big fan of the album version. When they started making pop records, I just couldn't get into them as much.

Put it in proper context, Misled (the song & video) was release in an era where every artist try to have their own Thriller moment in the 1980's. Personally, I like it a lot better than that pure cheesy Joanna. But a lot of old-school fans still take the piss out of Misled because of it's Thriller & Indiana Jones influences.

I've been curious about that album for years....is it really good? I was thrilled when JT came back into the band. They toured for several years after that and I wish that I had gone to one of those shows, because he left the band again in the late 90s confused I remember an angry interview from 1999 where he complained not about the other members, but the management. He felt that the management were ripping them off. There was some shady stuff going on with the money,he said.He did say that he would re-join the band if these problems were addressed, and they got new management.

My wish is for JT to re-join the band, and they do a big reunion tour with the reunited Commodores (featuring Lionel Richie).I really think this would be a hugely successful tour.

I loved all of their songs from the 80's. Misled, Tonight, Cherish, Joanna, Fresh...all of them!
I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

That would be a nice tour. It seems though i remember reading last year
on Wikipedia that JT had to give up singing because he suffered a stroke
a few years ago. I wonder if JT is still married to Starleana from slave.

yeah,'As One' is a mysterious little album....it just came and went.Didn't do very well, which is surprising since it was released in the middle of their 80s heyday.I remember the first single "Big Fun" getting only a little bit of airplay in my area.I have it on CD,it's a decent album but not nearly as strong as the album that came before it ('Something Special',1981) or the album that came after it ('In The Heart',1983).

I agree Something Special was a better album. I wasn't as crazy about
the In the Heart album. It came off a little too pop for me.
I did like No Show,the title track,Joanna(somewhat),Rollin,
and You can do it. The title track and No Show was the highlight
of the album for me.

"No Show" is on the 'Something Special' album lol It's a superb slow jam! I love that song. They made a video for it,but it was never released as a single.I always thought their label was foolish for not releasing it as a single.

Many fans consider 'Something Special' to be the best Kool & The Gang album of the JT years, and it's hard to argue otherwise. It's an exceptional album.

Thanks Soul. This is actually the song i was thinking about on
the In the Heart album. I got them mixed up since both No Show
and September Love were album closing songs.

I like the whole Ladies Night album. It's only got six songs, and some of them are not proper songs - they have a loose structure and rely heavily on production - but the album is fun to listen to anyway.
