Love Michael McDonald's background vocals, on this track. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Well, definitely a drug reference. The whole "Gaucho" album can be read as a group of stories and cautionary tales about life in LA... "Chasing the dragon" refers to inhaling the smoke from heated heroin, morphine or opium that has been placed on a piece of foil. course, one of Steely Dan's trademarks is putting pleasant music around some of the darkest subjects.... ... Their songs always have the ironic (but intentional) hybrid of breezy west coast jazz arrangements with a kind of east coast depressed intellectualism, alot of times speaking from the third person perspective of people existing just beyond the fringes of the world they're referring to in the songs. Glamour Profession, Peg, and this tune are probably my all time faves: Son you better be ready for love On this glory day This is your chance to believe What i've got to say Keep your eyes on the sky Put a dollar in the kitty (i.e. put your money in for your cut) Don't the moon look pretty Tonight when i chase the dragon The water will change to cherry wine (refers to blood drawn when shooting up) And the silver will turn to gold (i.e. the golden color of burnt foil after cooking up yout heroin) Time out of mind I am holding the mystical sphere It's direct from lhasa (a holy Tibetan city known for opium/heroin trafficking) Where people are rolling in the snow (this could either be the literal snow of the Himalyas, or a cocaine reference ) Far from the world we know Children we have it right here It's the light in my eyes It's perfection and grace It's the smile on my face Tonight when i chase the dragon The water will change to cherry wine And the silver will turn to gold Time out of mind Children we have it right here It's the light in my eyes It's perfection and grace It's the smile on my face Tonight when I chase the dragon The water will change to cherry wine And the silver will turn to gold Time out of mind Yeah, these dudes had some dark days, for real [Edited 9/26/09 6:28am]

Steely Dan, is my all time favorite group. "Aja", "Gaucho" and "Two Against Nature", being my favorite albums. They are a group that have stood the test of time and in my book, Donald Fagen is one of the best story tellers of my generation.
