i bought the album ... largely cause i liked the sound of "the rising..."

good album ... have listened to it alot ... but ... IMO only has about 3 or maybe 4 great songs ...

alot of it is what i call "BRUCE" filler ... same words over and over ... ("hope...love...strength... faith...) and always ... always ... a Bruce-ism patented "dooo wappp" ... or "laaa laaa laaa "... in every song ... gets weary for me ...

after listening to it ... for months ... in my car cd changer ... i now only listen to "the rising" , "nothing man " and "wait for paradise"!!??(is that the title) ... he he ...

I disagree with this point-of-view almost completely. I like almost all the songs and consider only 2 or 3 of the songs filler. This is the longest that I have constantly listened to an album since "Faith and Courage" by Sinead O'Connor was released.

I'm of the opinion that this is a terrific album. For me, there's no filler.

I haven't heard an album with a true artistic statement like "The Rising"'s in twenty years.

And if you're a guitar player, every song is a gem.

I saw the Boss in concert last November, and the one song that unexpectedly blew me away live was "Waitin' on a Sunny Day". It's now my favorite song to play.

Curiously, the song that I really liked on the album - "Mary's Place", which had been touted by some as the next "Rosalita" - didn't sound good to me at all live. It's still an absolute blast to play, though.

I am with you Machine. This is the 1st CD I have listened to this consistantly since Oasis' Morning Glory. It has not left my CD player since I bought it last summer. Empty Sky is the only track I don't love but I still like. The album only gets better with each listen. It is a great album and I think only The River and Born to Run are better from Bruce.

I've heard this complaint before.
