Are Kanye West and Eminem tolerated because they're geniuses? Think about it.
Prince has a major P&R disaster about ever 2 to 3 years. I mean, of career-ending proportions; however, he still sells enough albums to go gold and platinum. Eminem has probably pissed off everybody in the music industry, but he still sells millions. For all the controversy surrounding him, the guy understands satire, rhyme, and a certain ethereal, sublime mastery of his artwork. Same could be said about Kanye West. Where Prince is the modern day Mozart, Kanye is today's Shakespeare. All of these figures keep offending the general public. They upset, they shock, and they sometimes repulse. But always, they entertain, they inspire, and they turn this mutha out. Your thoughts? . [Edited 9/22/09 23:48pm]

Calling them geniuses is just a, ehm, little bit funny.
But yes, I think you're right about what you are trying to convey there. But it's really a two-way deal: the irritating aspects will usually even put the fans' devotion on test as well, not to mention a need to defend them in the longer run. If you look at the case with Michael Jackson - a lot of his long-time fans kept on supporting him all through the years even if he wasn't putting much music out, simply because they've made a personal investment of time and energy when writing on the forums and so on.

I kinda hope you were sarcastic, but somehow i have the feeling you are dead serious,

Eminem is done, he's only selling with the new MTV crowd who didn't know how good he used to be. Anyone over 15 hates his guts now because he keeps just trying to emulate the success of Without Me.
Majority of young people dig Kanye's music, although 808s has been his least successful so far. Most cannot stand his personality, I mean, really, were you living under a rock for the last two weeks? What made you think either of these two are tolerated in any way?

That's very true. IMO - Kanye and Em fall into the money maker category. Geniuses - WTF!! Not now and not ever. [Edited 9/23/09 10:08am]

His lyrics isn't great neither (with Gold Digger as a strong exception).

you might be right that they are geniuses. My nephew had a genius IQ...very obvious he is really smart. But he has severe ADHD so basically no common sense, overly impulsive, no social skills. So a lot of people will think he is really ignorant. He also has a really bad temper, and a really big ego.
Kanye has a lot of those traits to me. It's obvious he is quite smart, but he lacks serious impulse control. Eminem is just an asshole.... And Prince is a musical prodigy!
