This Saturday in New York! James Brown's Soulsister # 1 MARVA WHITNEY

James Brown fans, Funk fans, Marva Whitney fans! This month, NYC's premier Soul party Dig Deeper presents a real smash. Soulsister # 1, The First Lady of Funk, Mrs. Marvelous Marva Whitney will perform her first show in the Big Apple since her last performance with James Brown at the Apollo Theater in 1969 - exactly 40 years ago!
She will be backed up by the Sweet Divines, and we can assure you that this will be the real deal! If this isn't enough, the Dig Deeper DJ crew DJ Honky & Mr. Robinson and special guest and fellow org member DJ Pari (Soulpower/Midnight Soulstice) will play a fine selection of rare Soul and Funk 45s until 4 a.m.
Marva Whitney will be making history that night - be there to witness it, this is a show not to miss. Would be nice to see some of y'all there.

Vicki? biggrin Vicki was Brown's featured female vocalist before Marva joined him. When Marva left in late '69, Vicki briefly came back. But she never had the impact that Marva had. In fact, she never even recorded an entire album, but she released a few great 45s on King and Brownstone.

LOL @ Dj Honky

Richard "DJ Honky" Lewis is one of the greatest Soul DJs worldwide. This cat got some very serious records, and I almost feel a bit intimidated to play with him that night.

Honky and his partner are bad-ass. They just promoted the Brooklyn Soul Festival last week, which was amazing ...
