Britney Canned! BRITNEY CANNED!
Star Magazine December 31, 2002 THERE's no joy of Pepsi in Britney Spears' life ? not since the soda giant hired Destiny's Child beauty Beyonce Knowles to replace her as their spokeswoman! "Britney's ticked off," says an insider. "She heard from some friends at Pepsi that they were replacing her for Beyonce because they wanted someone more family-friendly." The truth is, the 21-year-old pop diva's image has changed drastically since she signed her Pepsi contract. For months, her behavior has been rude and crude, and her partying out of control. She even flipped the finger at fans before a concert in Mexico City last summer. And the recent revelation by her ex-boyfriend, *NSYNC singer Justin Timberlake, 21, that she's not as pure and chaste as she made herself out to be, didn't help either. "Justin has been hinting that Britney was unfaithful during their relationship and that she's not a virgin at all," says a friend. On top of that, as Star recently reported, sources claim Britney cheated on Justin with Ben Affleck! Meanwhile, Beyonce's career is on the rise. She won rave reviews for her role in the last Austin Powers flick, Goldmember ? while Britney's career has fizzled since Crossroads. Her album, Britney, sold only 3.7 million copies in the U.S. ? less than half as many as her previous album, Oops!...I Did It Again. And her commercials weren't as well received as Pepsi expected, despite all the hype behind them. Britney, 21, signed up with the beverage giant in February 2001 and became the company's darling in its $119 million world TV and poster campaign. Her first Pepsi ad premiered at the 2001 Academy Awards. That was followed by a much-hyped 90-second spot during the 2002 Super Bowl, with Britney dressed in outfits from the '50s to the present. It included a swinging beach-blanket-movie takeoff. Unfortunately, the ads were a bust. They cost the company $5.8 million to air, plus the cost of production, yet viewers hated them! The spots were the lowest-rated Pepsi ads ever. But that wasn't the biggest strike against Britney. Although Pepsi was paying her $7 million to endorse its products, she was spotted drinking rival Coke during a trip to Sydney, Australia. Oops! "The fact that Britney drinks Coke in private when Pepsi is paying her millions is totally unacceptable," Dr. Audrey Guskey, professor of marketing at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, tells Star. "What a stupid thing for her to do!" And it appears Pepsi couldn't agree more! "The contract with Britney Spears expires at the end of the year, and there are no plans to renew it," says a company spokesman. "Beyonce is a multi-talented entertainer who has achieved tremendous success and popularity in both music and movies. We're really looking to take the work in a different direction." And they think Beyonce, 21, is on the right track. They've signed her to star in two commercials and will also sponsor her 2003 solo concert tour. Paul Cappelli, president and creative director of The Ad Store, Inc. in NYC, tells Star he thinks Beyonce is the right one, baby. "Britney's not the type of girl parents want their kids looking up to," he says. "As for Beyonce, she'll probably be able to connect better with Pepsi's core audience. She has an image with greater crossover appeal." And Pepsi needs help. "The company's stock has experienced a sharp decline," says a source. Hey, im not Big on Britney or anything like that, but alot of people dont even get 2 One Million. I particularly thought the album was alot better than the first one, but ok than the 3rd one. U cant always change ur music 2 an R&B appeal without giving credit where credit is due Britney, Jessica, NSync. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I might be a little bit parnoid but I think Bill O'Reily will picket Pepsi anyway becuase its Beyonce and not becuase she is dating Jay-Z (if you read). | |

Well thank God she has a nice rack and a fine ass! I am not into her music but I do like her for being who she is! She is riding on a trip, and making loads of money with it, who wouldn't want to be her right now? I don't think she sees herself as a serious singer/songwriter right now! I say: more power to her!
