You know how that works sometimes...Don't mean to sound cryptic but...like I stated before, I just didn't expect this. It's a cool trip definately. [Edited 9/23/09 2:52am] Man you got skills. Mad respect son you definitely got it from your dad. your dad put out some great records man standing at the crossroads has been on my wantlist for years. Aaaah man,..thank you. And thank u for the compliments to my father. Standing to me, is hands down the best thing released by Eddie and Ernie. Although it's billed as a duo, they had already disbanded by the time my father recorded this. My mother & father and myself moved up here to Hollywood in 71 specifically for my dad's solo career. Ernie stayed in Arizona. This song was cut with some of the cats I had mentioned earlier, James Jamerson, Ray Jackson and James Gadson. This song was recorded with a batch of other solo material of my father's. So what u hear on this is my dad on all of the vocals himself. But because Hadley Murrell, a dj turned record promoter/producer who was working with my father at the time, thought this song was on fire that he did a rush release of it with Buddah. Since my dad's only track record at that stage were many 45 singles released under the billing "Eddie and Ernie", Buddah released this 45 as such, thus the Eddie and Ernie title on the a song which for all intent and purposes, is a solo recording of my dad alone. It was to be part of his solo album that didn't come to pass then. Same scenerio with Daptone's release of "Bullet's Don't Have Eyes". That is another song recorded after Eddie and Ernie broke up but because it was included on their compilation album "Lost Friends", Daptone released it as Eddie and Ernie. I also heard the song and must admit I never heard the original before until the other day and was not aware his father was a recoring artist but I really liked BG's version a lot and thought it was touching. The song is so catchy and the guitar solo rocked!!

Both versions were very nice, but I like the addition of the guitar to BZ's version.
I have heard BG's instrumentals before, but that was the first time I'd heard him sing. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I know I'm late, but I just listened to the broadcast today.
I'm glad I did. Blackguitaristz did a great job! The Prince influence is definitely there, but I think he did a good job of marrying the classic sound of his father's song with his influences to create his own thing. I really liked the bass and guitar on his version. Keep playing player. I look forward to hearing more. Side note: They had some nice jams on that broadcast. I went and downloaded a few. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Aaaaaah, good ear T84, good ear. Yeah, I included that lyric from one of my all time favorite songs, "A Woman's Gotta Have It" because my dad was pretty good friends with Mr. Womack and that phrase fit the theme of my father's lyrics. And more so the spoken part on my version...about a true love that I had and I dogged over it. So I just tied it all together. Man, everytime I hear that song when Bobby sings "Oh I had a love....a true love and I lost it." and when I hear my dad's song "Standing At The Crossroads" when he sings "If I had done right, I wouldn't have lost my love"...those sentiments cut deep in my brain because I can hella relate to it. So I just connected all of that in my version. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
