Very nice job. The guitar was definately very Prince-like. Love the bells at the beginning and the soft talking toward the end was a nice touch. Be sure and let us know when it's released so we can pick it up.

Wow,...thank you all for the kind sentiments and even more than that, having the guts to give a compliment OPENLY on here. And not tripping on what other's on here might think. That to me, speaks volumes in itself. wink I didn't think I would get the positive responses that I did receive on this thread so again, thank you.

Soulpower, it's ironic that you had a song by Jackie Wilson on this show's playlist....Jackie Wilson recorded a song that my father, Eddie Campbell, wrote titled "Three Days, One Hour and Thirty Minutes".

Pari, thanks for unearthing No Particular One.

Some background on that cut...

"Rocking With the C.Q." sounds like an early to mid-60s R&B instrumental, but was actually released in 1968 as the flip side to "No Particular One", a song which would see a second release in 1972 on another of Boone's labels Soul-Po-Tion (Soul-Po-Tion 121) with a Roshell Anderson's "No What You'll Be Doing When You Leave" (sic) on the flip. "No Particular One" also saw a national release on the Sunburst label (Sunburst 523) in 1973, as well as a 1973 international release on the UK Comtempo label (Contempo 2014).

In the early 70s I worked with Jesse Boone's Soul-Po-Tion label as a studio engineer and was also his band leader.
I played on that Roshell Anderson cut mentioned and went on to record an album with him in NYC that was released on the Sunburst label.

It was a learning experience to say the least.

biggrin U mean Eddie. Eddie Campbell's my dad, not Ernie Johnson. wink And you're refering that my playing is like Ernie Isley and Timmy refered earlier that my playing is like Eddie Hazel. So Eddie Campbell, who is my dad, and Ernie Johnson sung with my dad. Eddie Hazel and Ernie Isley is who was stated that my playing sounds like. O.k., I got it. wink

Yes, I think BGZ's singing sounds like his dad, Eddie Campbell. And his guitar playing does reminds me of 'Maggot Brain' as Timmy84 said...and 'Voyage To Atlantis' too (I love that song). I think it's kind of different to Prince, maybe even more like Hendrix ....but yes, very emotional and way up there! The ending is so beautiful and intense, sounds like there's lots of guitars, it's really hypnotic, and sent me into a complete dream world...

Fantastic, thanks for sharing that. It is often hard, if not impossible, to track down some background information on a rare Funk or Soul 45, and this one definitely surprised me. I had no idea you were already in the biz back then. Are you on Medicaid?

Mr.Campbell.

1st off, I didn't know that you're descendant from soul royalty untill now nod

And 2nd of all, I can't get over how trippy this remake is,,,,,maybe I'm not the only one, but I love the "dark haunting" mood, I think the guitar accentuate that pretty well.

Much props Mr.SoulPower for giving us a chance to listen to this song mushy I truly hope this ain't the only shit we settle with from dude(BGZ).

..I've listened to this song again and I love it. I really hear P, but I hear a lot of Eddie Hazel, Ernie Isley and a little Jimi in there too. It has that "Electric Lady/Atlantis" thing going on.... Spiritual.

This is a wonderful tribute to your father. So much can be said with music. You're a true talent Brutha B. wink
