This week, we'll have a real treat on Midnight Soulstice ... This Friday's show is a tribute to a group that needs little introduction. Since 1998, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings have been touring the world, bringing us the most authentic, heartfelt and just plain cool super Soul and Funk sounds. Today, they are the most celebrated New Funk act in the world, with fans dappin' hard from Japan to Europe, from Australia to the Americas and even to our most favorite late night shows with David Letterman and Conan O'Brian. After three albums, Sharon and her Brooklyn based combo are still going strong, currently recording a new masterpiece LP.
We will also present you a top notch selection ot tunes by other artists on the Daptone label, making this a perfect tribute to one of the finest labels in Soul music history. And as if this wasn't enough, members of the Daptone-family will join us live on the show to chat about what that Daptone thing is all about. Who? We won't give you any names, just allow us to surprise you! Tune in this Friday, November 13th, from 11 pm until 1 am Eastern on 97.3 fm (in Richmond) and www.wrir.org (worldwide). More information on Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings here: http://www.daptonerecords...kings.html

It's too bad she doesn't have the circus sideshow lifestyle of certain other "artists" (that many seemed to be so infatuated with), she'd probably be a lot more popular (for all the wrong reasons). Music for adventurous listeners tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 Sharon is such a down to earth lady, there's no way she'd ever live the Diva life style. But I disagree with you ... I think that Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are extremely popular for a Deep Funk act .. they are the only ones having broken into the mainstream. They do TV performances, they appear on movie soundtracks, the Dap-Kings are the band behind Amy Whinehouse, and Sharon even got a little part in The Great Debaters. I don't think you can go more far into the mainstream without compromising that raw Soul sound, and that's something they will never do ..

Yep, I'm hip to Daptone because they sent a few 45's to me for free of my father's soul duo Eddie and Ernie. A little while ago, they released a Special Edition two 45's by Eddie and Ernie; "Bullet's Don't Have Eyes" (written and sung by my father) b/w "In These Very Tender Moments" (written by my father and Ernie). The second single also had "Bullets Don't Have Eyes" on the A side b/w
"You Make My Life A Sunny Day" (written by my father, Ernie and Pete James). But yeah, I know Mr. Sugarman and David Griffiths. Neal Sugarman has emailed me while he was on the road from touring with Sharon Jones. If he's going to be one of the guests, tell Mr. Sugarman I said hello.
