I'm so tired of "musical geniuses" [soapbox]
This has probably been on the Org since Day 1, but I'm just exhausted at people who get called musical geniuses who can't strum a guitar, bang a drum, or sing a note in tune. It's not about being a virtuoso on any particular instrument. There are some singers who would qualify for the title. Pop music is full of performers who may or may not be musicians. Call some of these guys world-class performers, but please..."musical genius" is used so much, it's like we're in a golden age of sound. We have documentaries that celebrate how many bullets they've endured, how close they were to death, how many lovers they've had, how they look in a bikini, all of stuff that has nothing to do with music. We celebrate these people, we make them celebrities, and then they act as if they ARE worthy of being celebrated. If i wanna see someone that's from the street, Rikers and Ossining are pretty much free. If I want to see someone hanging out of their clothes, I don't need to see a video; there's a Bada-Bing on every corner. As much as I love Prince, and love the energy of his earlier shows, it's when he sits down in a chair and plays his guitar or works out the piano, where he is the most powerful for me. [/soapbox] Some people tell me I've got great legs...

Case dismissed. Although all of these men are pretty scary individuals though, so maybe there's something of a pattern to be traced here.
