Queen Latifah's Persona

Ok now I admit I havent got up to track 8 yet however I think this is going to be one of my favorite albums of the summer. The Light has a nice beat with her laying some positive lyrics about bettering yourself. Fast Car is a futuristic tyoe of pop tune that doesnt sound too far from a Black Eyed Peas type tune. Cue The Rain was the single we thought was called "Chains". A stomping rocker with a catchy chorus and nice vocals. Take Me [With You] is another hot uptempo little r&b pop tune with some nice backging vox that turns into the late 80's / 90's type Dance song "With You" which is more than just a reprise. Hard To love ya i forgot what that one sound like as well as My Couch but I remember them not being bad at all just lost my attention. I ended up on "Whats The Plan" another nice 80's thumping synth funk tune with some nice bass and some repetitive chants over some intresting changed up beats.

I advise you guys to check it out from what I heard! Comes out 2morrow!

After hearing the whole thing now it is a nice album. It has alot of difrent styles and is not a hardcore comeback however her lyrics are sweet tracks like "The Light" and "Long A-- Week" are great. My favorite being Take Me & With You. The Neptunes reggae track was ok but kind of a let down. Its not the best album she ever made but it is enjoyable.

I listened to this once last week (or did we get it 2 weeks ago? confuse) and in all honesty haven't had the desire to play it again yet. sad

And I love her. sigh

She looks great in the Mike Ruiz pics on the liner notes.

I didn't know the album was out either until I saw her perform Cue the Rain on Ellen yesterday. Pretty good performance.

Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

What was the name of the track that was leaked months ago. I don't think it's on there so I skipped the release. Trying to cut down on albums unless they are by favorite artists or are hits collections.

We thought it was something about Chains but it's actually the song Cue the Rain, the one she's performing on Ellen.

Ok, I just gave it another spin.

The first 3 songs are easily the best part of this album.
"Cue the Rain" is a good catchy track.
"Pure" is such an obvious attempt at getting Ghey Club play and "Long Ass Week" is just as obvious an attempt at a Girls Nite Out anthem. Unfortunately both dull IMO.
"Hard to Love Ya" with Busta is generic. We've heard this done a hundred times.
"What's the Plan": she should've skipped this song altogether and done a KICKASS remake of Shannon's "Let the Music Play" instead. Would've been WAY hotter and you can tell from this lackluster number that she could pull it off.
"People" with Mary J and "Over the Mountain" are nice enough.

I appreciate that she wanted to mix all these genres. This could've been a GREAT album. Right artist. Right concept. But falls short...and kinda flat. sad

That said. Not the worst album I've ever heard. shrug

What's the song sampled in "Runnin"??? It's makin me nuts. lol

Thats a good question for "Runnin"

Lyon, Andre/Eddie Montilla/Dana Owens/Valenzano, Marcello
wink

Thanks for your review. Now that I heard the whole thing it's ok. It is still better than what I was expecting. It's just a bit commercial in spots...there is some gay flovor...some hardcore flavor..some MTV flair. Maybe she should have stuck to one sound this time around? Im loving "With You" I wasnt expecting that dance track to be on there..took me back to the 90's.

If that's not a sample in "Runnin" they majorly ripped off something from the 80's. It's gotta be a sample. wall lol
