You going, tA?

This got me thinking about the distinction between 'cover bands' and 'tribute bands'.

Will Lee and his band don't seem to try to emulate of duplicate the Beatles sound but bring their virtuoso chops to the table and entertain us with fresh (but not too far from original) arrangements and instrument voicings.

With the Fab Faux (great name!) it's enough to celebrate the genius of the Beatles without trying to "be" the Beatles like say, Rain who attempt to exactly reproduce the songs and the look of the Beatles with wigs, costuming etc.

And they do a pretty good job of it too: http://raintribute.com/

Check out the song samples in the right margin. About the only thing they don't have exactly in place is that the bass player is right handed.

I've been trying to see them for quite a while.
It seems that each time they come to L.A., i've got something else going on.
Again, this time i'll be preparing for a show in NYC.

I think The Fab Faux's deal is to try and recreate as wide a swath of The Beatles' musical catalog as accurately as possible (hence the addition of strings & horns), in real time without going for the "look".

Rain appears to be pulling off the more complicated music by using backing tracks in place of extra musicians.

couldn't they have picked an album better than Let It Be to perform in its entirety? i mean, besides also doing Abbey Road.....

just saying it's kind of a weird choice of all the Beatles albums to want to perform live and complete.

or even listen to.

I might try to go this weekend. I wish they were doing Rubber Soul like in Jersey, but it's a "mixed bag" show here.
