Amel Larrieux

Any fans here? I've always liked Groove Theory, but just got into Amel's solo stuff recently and I think she's amazing. "Bravebird" is my favorite album of hers. Such a talented and refreshing artist.

Does anyone know what she's up to these days and does she have plans to release a new album anytime soon?

I adore 'Bravebird' (the album as well the song; probably my favorite on the disc)! It's one of those CDs that I found in the record store and had no idea it existed. I knew "Tell Me" and really dug "Get Up" so I was familiar with Amel. But when I picked up the CD off the shelf I wasn't sure if it was the same singer. She's really glammed up on the cover. It kinda doesn't look like her. Or at least I wasn't used to seeing her like that. I also had never heard of the label (I knew she was with Sony). I guess I was surprised she had broken off from the majors and gone the independent route. So I had to give the CD a preview in the store. I only had to hear about a minute of "For Real" and I knew I was making a purchase. I listened to the rest when I got home and was shocked at how much I enjoyed the album. Rarely do I find new music I like. Most contemporary recordings leave me cold. When the opening of the song "Bravebird" came on I immediately thought this is the kind of feel good music [a one-time favorite artist of mine who shall remain nameless] should be doing. Oddly, I couldn't get into Amel's last 2 albums. Disappointing because I really like her. Wikipedia says she's released 2 singles this year and an album is on the way. I'm off to Youtube now. Fingers crossed, the new stuff will speak to me.

Thanks for the info! I agree with a lot of what you said. I also usually tend to stick with listening to older music for the most part. There are very few contemporary artists that i'm really into like that, but as soon as I heard Bravebird, I became a fan. Amel is great, but although I liked "Morning", I wasn't too impressed with her last album "Lovely Standards". Not a bad album, but not as good as her others to me. Hopefully, her new material will be better. I'm also hoping that she tours soon, I'd like to see her in concert.
