Why is it when a woman reaches a certain age, people are quick to put them out to pasture. I have yet to hear anyone say male acts like The Rolling Stones should retire. I find it very sexist. "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

Ok and? Prince still fills the seats and has aged the best. The pop chart stuff is like...who gives a shyt?
[Edited 9/12/09 3:02am] Madonna hasn't interested me in a decade and probably never will again. But, I don't think she needs to go away if she's enjoying herself. People still go to see her in concert so she's doing her thang, I guess. [Edited 9/13/09 19:26pm] "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

Co-sign, that's just ridiculous.

I loved the early music she did with Jellybean Benitez. After that, not so much.
Her image has always been so contrived. "LOOK AT ME, LOOK HOW SEXUAL I AM!" Corny. When you're sexy, you don't have to shout it from the roof tops, people just see it.

what, all 2 or 3 songs? Her image has always been so contrived. "LOOK AT ME, LOOK HOW SEXUAL I AM!" Corny. When you're sexy, you don't have to shout it from the roof tops, people just see it. that's funny to read less than an inch from your avatar

Comments like this remind me of the incident we had on Radio 2 earlier in the year when the TV presenters Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand said something offensive about actor Andrew Sach's daughter. Initially there were few complaints, but once it was reported on in the media people re-tuned into replays of the radio show just so they could be offended by it and write in to make a complaint. Why do people do that??!! Its the same with music...if you know you're not likely to enjoy Madonna's music, videos, whatever, why do people bother with them...just so they can have a whinge about it afterwards?! Damn, life is too short! There's artist out there I know I'm not gonna enjoy, so I dont listen to them. More power to them I say, but they just aren't for me for whatever reason. I certainly dont make the effort to listen to them just so I can have a moan about them afterwards! If you dont like Madge so what, no one is forcing you to stay tuned into the same radio station, music tv channel, or play certain CDs. Its quite easy to avoid an artist if you dont like them. Madonna is championed so much more by her worldwide fan base, the press, the internet blogging machine, concert promoters, concert box office FIGURES, worldwide album sales, every song hits no. 1 at itunes in every country it seems - there is NO WAY to ignore her, still, for even the casual pop music fan. Ditto Britney, Justin, etc but Madonna has been around and on some folks nerves for so many years and she keeps on doing tours that gross hundreds of millions and her new music is still sought after, anticipated, and if not played on US radio stations, certainly dominates clubs in every country in the world... I'll grant you that she gets alot of coverage in the press, and I'm more than aware that she can get on people's nerves; her comments about Jacko at the MTV Awards are another fine example of that. But I do think she's earned most of her coverage just by her ability to hang around in what is a predominantly young person's medium, and for the wonderful (in my humble opinion) music she's given us. And you mention Britney and Justin, but honestly I really dont see them or hear them during my daily routine as I avoid the sort of media that pushes them; its very easy to do. Ditto for Madonna, it would be easy to avoid her with very little effort. Beyonce gets on my nerves but I rarely see or hear her, and if she comes on the radio I switch over, no big deal, very little effort, job done. I certainly don't go to the effort of finding an unrelated forum and demand she retire. Think about it, if artists retired just because someone who didnt like them and their work demanded it there would be no artists left. Every artist and band in the world has someone that doesnt like them or their output, so eventually there would be no one left. I think its arrogant of a person to insist that their musical tastes alone should dictate what the rest of us has to listen to. Like I said, I dont like Beyonce but I dont go round calling for her head, I just dont let her stuff get to me, with very little effort expended. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Oh, and Madonna's music dominating nightclubs around the world? I wish!!! Here in the UK I never hear her stuff played, and I go clubbing all over fairly frequently (I think the last time was a year ago when they played Like A Prayer during the cheesy 80s hour at a club I was in). The lady still puts out great dance music and some of the remixes of her stuff are superb (the Junkie XL remix of 4 Minutes was amazing) but I never hear her stuff, at either the clubs or raves I go to. I've even asked the DJ a few times and gotten some pretty blank stares in return. Last proper time was seeing Judge Jules do a set back in 2001 at one of our local clubs and he spun the Above & Beyond remix of What It Feels Like For A Girl...I remember that moment fondly!! www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

She's still making bank and at 51 is still making hits worldwide. whether you like it or not she's not gonna disappear, if you don't like her get over it and change the station. 2012: The Queen Returns
