I was born in 1984 but I rather listen to Off the Wall. Disco rules in my house, so does funk and there was a lot of both in that album. lol

Neither styles of music appeal to me. Especially disco. feeling ill

Well you just have different musical tastes then. Plus Thriller, while a good album on its own merit, has become very overrated because that's all you hear the media talking about especially for its marketing feats.

Eh, Thriller is better than OTW imo. & it does age better. Most people my age prefer Thriller. Some of the songs on OTW are just too disco sounding.

That being said I would say Madonna Ray of Light, Beyonce Dangerously in Love, and Alicia Key's first album.

O hell NAW

lol lol

it might be a cultural thing but I know a lot of ppl my age like material from bad, dangerous, history and invincible. I don't think most ppl my age prefer thriller. I think that's the older generation.

I'm 23. & I've heard the hits growing up and had to go out of my way to listen to the album. I like the hits excluding the title track. & I like Workin' Day and Night and Get on The Floor. The rest is meh for me.

i'm 23 as well and i heard his newer music when i was little from bad and dangerous and history.

Yes Bad is almost flawless to me. I don't like Man in the Mirror or Speed Demon though. & I don't like Dangerous that much. But I do love Remember the Time, Will You be There, Gone to Soon, and the title track. But Black or White is his worst hit imo. The song isn't good. & I love History to death even though it has fillers. For me, Thriller was his best. It's flawless. I don't listen to Baby be Mine but it's not a bad song. The rest are classics.

Nirvana's Nevermind.

I've been subjected to it many many times and hate and can't believe it's nearly always in the top 5 of lists

I understand people saying Nevermind, but it is one of my favorites--up there with Beatles, Stones, Prince, Stevie, Bowie.

There is not a bad song on it. It's a near perfect rock album.

Are people saying that Thriller is the most overrated
album of all time just because it's the most successful
selling of all time and it's often talked about.
Damn PYT,Human Nature,The Lady in My Life alone make
this album classic and those songs are generally an afterthought
when it comes to this album.
I saw where someone mentioned Lauren Hill's Miseducation as one.
While i don't agree that makes a hell of a lot more sense than
putting Thriller there. For me The Fugees score album would definitely
be a candidate on the list for most overrated album of all time.

I'm going to get some evil comments for saying this, I'm a huge Prince fan, but with the exception of When Doves Cry, the Purple Rain soundtrack did nothing for me. It' widely regarded as Prince's greatest album, and one of the greatest albums of all times, etc., but to me it sounds like a rip-off of 1999.

i'll agree on this one. i think it has some classic singles, but as a whole album, i could never get with it.

i love(d) it to pieces but it's too long and i hate skits.

I don't get Thriller at all, I'm 38 and the music just sounds silly. Honestly until I joined the org I didn't know there were adults that thought this was good music. I figured he played to young teens and people who saw him as a nostalgia act

to me, it's not the disco tracks that have aged poorly on OTW, it's all that AM mellow gold stuff halfway through to near the end. It's The Falling In Love, I Can't Help It, Girlfriend.... zzzzz

Has anyone noticed that it's only with Michael Jackson...that it must be a bad album just because it didn't sell 500 billion like thriller did? Britney's first album sold like 20 million but critics rate Blackout as her best album.

Yeah and that's crazy because I consider Dangerous and HIStory to have some very great material in it. Even Invincible had some cuts in it. But they always focus on sales when it comes to MJ.

that's what MJ focused on, so can you blame them? every time he opened his mouth about his music, it was how the next thing was going to be bigger than Thriller

The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers
In terms of sonical experiments and studio trickery it might have been a 'landmark' album, but Revolver and Abbey Road (and maybe also Rubber Soul) are better albums in terms of songwriting and consistency.

Prince - Purple Rain
In terms of drive / energy / rock-and-roll attitude Purple Rain is a great album. But its also a bit TOO obvious and blatant. Parade and Sign of the Times are more subtle, layered albums, offering more depth and playfullness.

lowkey

i agree thriller is overrated, the overwhelming success is what caused all the hype, off the wall shits on thriller musically, bad is also a better album but my favorite mj album is the very underrated dangerous.
