What album do you guys think is overrated.

For me it's Nevermind. I love Nirvana but when people put them above Steve Wonder and James brown, I find it silly. It's a great album but not the greatest of all time or w/e people call it these days.

As much as I hate to admit it, I would have to add, "Thriller" to this list. It is not as good as "Off The Wall" and has not aged as well either. Had it not been released, I think Michael would have not have had that pressure to top it and would have released more consistent material.

Off the Wall is a masterpiece and nobody can touch it. Michael's best work by far. No track on that album is bad and cannot skip. The Girl is Mine, Baby Be Mine = I think the reason why the album did so well is because of the promotion- Motown 25 and Thriller video. A lot of people got the album because it was the "in" thing to do. It's a solid album but not Michael's best. I noticed by reading old reviews before Motown 25 and when the album first came out and they didn't rate it as high....now they rate it as being his best or so great because it sold so much. Like I said earlier, a lot of people weren't buying that album because it was the greatest of all time...they were buying it because it was the "in" thing to do. Like Randy Taberolli said Thriller became the household stamp.

Also, Grunge itself is credited and singlehandedly (and virtually "overnight") killing off the last of the hair bands from MTV and radio. After 1991/1992 all the Poisons/Warrants/Wingers/White Lions/etc. were gone. That was a good thing.

Keep in mind, I do like some of these albums a lot.

Eh, Thriller is better than OTW imo. & it does age better. Most people my age prefer Thriller. Some of the songs on OTW are just too disco sounding.

That being said I would say Madonna Ray of Light, Beyonce Dangerously in Love, and Alicia Key's first album.

I don't know what age you are, but if you were born in the 70s or 80s, you couldn't help but hear both albums getting lots of airplay.

Has anyone noticed that it's only with Michael Jackson...that it must be a bad album just because it didn't sell 500 billion like thriller did? Britney's first album sold like 20 million but critics rate Blackout as her best album.

I'm 23. & I've heard the hits growing up and had to go out of my way to listen to the album. I like the hits excluding the title track. & I like Workin' Day and Night and Get on The Floor. The rest is meh for me.

It was different growing up during the Disco era when EVERYONE had a Disco Hit. Hard-core rockers, country singers, and classical artists were all trying to cash in on the craze. It's kind of like how everyone is/was trying to cash in on hip-hop. Think about it, since hip-hop blew up, we have gotten everything from "Rappin' Rodney" (Rodney Dangerfield), Cowboy Troy, and so many rappin grandmothers.
