'Songs In The Key Of Life' feels like a movie soundtrack to me.Each song is like a different scene."Another Star" is the great big finale, but this story doesn't have a happy ending. It's a song of heartbreak...
for you there might be a brighter star but through my eyes, the light of you is all I see for you there might be another song but all my heart can hear is your melody

for you there might be a brighter star but through my eyes, the light of you is all I see for you there might be another song but all my heart can hear is your melody Wouldn't "Easy Goin' Evening (My Mama's Call)" (from the EP) be an appropriate ending to this story? Everytime I hear it, it seems like the credits are rolling because the mood has shifted from the funktastic grooves of "All Day Sucker" into a calmer space. Brilliant closer... Anyway, Another Star would have to rank as Stevie's all-time greatest because of how ambitious it is. Like someone said, it's like a jam session that never stops because the melody, fierceness, and rhythm never lets up. George Benson and Stevie worked perfectly for this classic. Wasn't Minnie Riperton singing the backgrounds on this track too? Check me out and add me on:

I figured it would have been Shirley Brewer or another member doing backing vocals. Hmmm.. Kimberly Brewer, Shirley Brewer... is there a connection there?
I love Another Star. What's cool is that the song is upbeat and jovial, but the lyrics are very sad (he can't move on from his lover. There's "Another star" for her, but not for him). Then, you listen to "Joy Inside My Tears" and the song is sad, but the lyrics are happy (like tears of joy).

Maybe they're sisters. Stevie dated them both. I remember seeing him with Shirley on one of the JET issues going back to 1995 when he put out Conversation Peace, they had it like Stevie and her were dating at the time.

I see Shirley was doing backing vocals for Stevie until Characters in 1987, then on Stevie's next album it was Kimberly. Hmmm.

I love how it just shifts into another song. In the background on the first half. Kimberly was his counterpointer in that one. Chaka Khan was originally going to be in that song but because of conflicting schedules he gave it to Kimberly to sing. I think Stevie originally wanted to give the entire song to Rufus but couldn't.

Well, I must say Stevie keeps his business out of the spotlight a lot, and things associated with that. Also that's shirley on ordinairy pain. on topic though: great song!!!
