Copycat

Those sales figures are impressive. She can still outshine the turds on urban radio even when plagued by reduced vocal power.

I haven't listened to Whitney's album yet, but the problem I had with Donna Summer's album is that it sounded so bland. Straddling the line between dated club tracks and dated pop songs. It sounded like she spent 20 years making it and didn't go back and bother to update anything she'd been working on in that time and just stuck it on there.

I know that's not how the album was recorded/produced, but I was very underwhelmed with it.

Different ears, I guess. Bland can mean good, but if meant negatively, it means not highly flavored, tasteless, lacking in special interest or liveliness, insipid, dull, unemotional. I find nothing bland about Donna Summer's Crayons. Maybe if it was a set of songs that all sounded the same with no emotion in the delivery, I would call it bland. Different ears, I guess. Crayons has been referred to many times as a very modern sounding collection of songs from a vocalist whose counterparts have opted to do standard songs. Maybe you were expecting more from Donna. I never expect more from her. I just love what she does, regardless. I guess that's the difference between us.

I did expect more from her and generally love her. I guess that is a difference. I like what I listen to to be good no matter who it's from. Crayons definitely missed the mark for me. Oh well, maybe she'll put out another one in 20 years.

You damn heathern you. I hope she gets her some crack with her money too. She's been back to her old dull self lately. She needs something to liven her up again and give us some comedy.

check out For The Lovers and tell me what you think vain..it is not like 80's funk and all that but I really am digging this tune.

I know you're not asking me to check out a Shitney tune. Have you been smoking some of her crack? lol Now, you know I could never listen to "her" objectively. I'm an old bitch and me and Miss Goodie Two Shoes go too far back. I remember the very first time I shit on her. It was right after I heard "Saving All My Love For You" on the radio in my covered wagon. Not only did I hate the song, but the horses hated it also. No, nowadays I would be looking for something wrong with her song before I even heard it. lol

OK, since it was you that asked and since I like your little cute self, I went over to youtube and checked it out. It sounds kinda like a watered down version of what club music has become these days. Considering that most club music I've heard these days sounds watered down (funky house music like Black Box, it ain't), I guess she fits right in. lol

'Crayons' isn't terrible and there are a few gems on there ("Science Of Love" should have been a single),but I find it to be inconsistent. The ballads are draggy.I'd like for Donna to do a straight-ahead dance/house/electronica album with one producer (or one production team),so that it flows perfectly....maybe something along the lines of Madonna's 'Confessions On A Dancefloor' or Cher's 'Believe'.

What's good is relative, definitely.

It's only inconsistent because it has different genres of music on it, which was the intention. Thus, the title! I think people have gotten too used to having someone put out a cd where the songs are a LITTLE different sounding, but basically sound the same. Just different tempos. Some like that. I like versatility, but would love Donna to do an all dance. I'm a fan, after all:)

I am thrilled for Whitney's comeback. Good for her. I stayed up late tonight to see her on Oprah and it STILL didn't air. Tennis was on instead of Oprah during the day, so they said it would air at 12:30am. I don't know what gives 'cause a damn repeat of the news is on. C'mon already!!!

Part one was a good interview. She seemed to really be honest about her answers.

I can appreciate an album with different genres on it (hey,we're Prince fans, lol) but I don't know....'Crayons' feels a little dis-jointed and uneven. The songs don't really flow well together. There are some great uptempo moments, but the party gets dull when she launches into the slower tracks."Slide Over Backwards" is just plain horrible and brings the album to a complete halt.

I'm thrilled that she's back and giving us new music, but next time around,I'd love a kickass dance album from her.A modern-day disco album. She could even make it a concept album (like her classic albums of the 70s),with a theme and storyline. That would be really interesting.
