Publishing company and Record label?

How does one think of a name for a publishing company and a record label? I'm having a brain fart right now and can think of anything.

I might do like OutKast and just open up a dictionary and pick whatever my finger lands on ...

hmmm How 'bout after...
Your child, wife, mother, father etc...
Regions, a city, state, neighborhood.
If it's a joint company, you can use parts of each partners name.
Zodiac sign, an anagram.

...or like you said, the dictionary.
After a couple of tries, your finger may land on something you like.

cool gl.

Name it after the street you grew up on. "35th Street Records" or "Thirty Fifth Publishing". Name it after your pet, or your mom's middle name. I've had a d/b/a name for years (registered) that I thought up in high school. It's partly to do with my name, sorta. I've always used it with a (c) or (p) issue when I've created something. I've used it since 1982 or so.

When you think of the name, register it at your local county court house. It's just a few bucks, and you can register it as a d/b/a (Doing Business As) name. It helps establish a paper trail too, so no one tries to bogart your namesake.

Thinks, I know what you mean, I have a dba but am thinking of changing the name.
