Paul McCartney - the bassist

Been listening to the last several Beatles records recently, and I don't think I had ever paid enough attention to Paul's wonderful bass lines.

It seems like he was able to really concentrate on his playing on those songs that he didn't write himself. Granted, that wonderful sound itself plays a part in the end-result as well, but I'm really starting to see him also from a bit different perspective as a musician. It's not virtuoso playing, but just very tasteful and inventive stuff on the whole.

it's funny that you posted Something, because I was just listening to that on the headphones this weekend and admiring Paul's beautiful work on it. Such an amazing song.

McCartney is certainly one of the best bassists ever to pick up the instrument.

His playing is so lyrical and melodic - almost another vocal line.

If you really want to know how amazing he is, learn some of his lines and play along with the songs. His placement of notes and sense of harmonic structure is stunning.

The man is simply a mind-blowing master of harmony and melody.
