Yes. Buy it. Read some of the other MJ threads here and get other people's reviews, but I think it's worth the money.

Wasn't a success?

i respectfully disagree.

Enjoy the album if you buy it. Don't suppose you'll dig a few tracks, but everybody has their own ten track version on their mp3 player anyway. that's normal. smile

Listen to the CD in its entirety first on Lala.com and then decide on whether you'd like to own it.

Really, it depends on how you measure success. In the end, It shifted 9 or 10 million units, which by anybody's standards today would be unbelievable.

it was only consider unsuceessful compared to his previous albums aka thriller aka the biggest selling album of all time in reality it sold just as well as the other albums released that year selling 10 million copies

it has some great songs on it i really love the album and personally think it is very under rated

For all the complaining about Invincible, it is still a better listen than a lot of albums, just not one of the top albums from MJ's catalog. That doesn't mean all of the songs suck a little bit, but some are great and some are not so great. MJ fans are spoiled and used to hearing all great songs.

Clive Davis had nothing to do with MJ. Clive Davis left Sony in the 70s.

You should get Invincible. If you like the "new" tracks on Blood on the Dancefloor, there's a good chance that you'll like Invincible. It's worth it for these trax:

Unbreakable
You Rock My World
Butterflies
Break of Dawn
Speechless
Whatever Happens

These songs are (to me) the core of the album.

Omit the first 3 feeling ill

Listen to tracks 4 thru 7 (He should've stayed with that format)

Then skip to track 15

The rest are either somewhat ok or feeling ill

They felt like fillers that didn't go with the album.

The stinkers are:

The Lost Children
2000 Watts
Privacy.

However when he died, in my grief, i found myself putting these tracks back onto my ipod, cause it was Michael songs i'd barely heard.

and i still don't like them much. lol

Invincible's a decent album, man. You'll never stop repeating songs like "Break of Dawn" or "Whatever Happens" if you like songs like that (as I do). nod

Not a fan here.

really plastic nonsense.

Whatever Happens, Heaven Can Wait and Butterflies are good.

Crap like:-
Speechless (So god-awful)
Lost Children (A great track from the South Park vault)
Privacy (Total blah, heard it all before)
2000watts (*sigh* Many say its MJ being experimental, i agree, experimental with pots, pans and an empty skull)
Unbreakable (Heard it all before, looped to shit)
You are my life (Seriously, King of cheese! Awful "ballad")
Threatened (GOD! Thriller was 20 years ago, get over it!)

Then the OK's:-
Break Of Dawn (would be great if it wasn't for looping and MJ's cursed arrangement formula)
Dont walk away (good strings...thats it)
Heartbreaker/Invincible (Same as Break Of Dawn)

As with most his post 80s work its looped too much and relies on obviously "catchy" hooks and the terrible MJ arrangement rule. Its all predictable really.

It was Tommy Motola that he had the disagreement with. I play "Invincible" at least once a week. The way I feel about "Invincible", is the same way I feel about "Dangerous", it was two songs away from a masterpiece. Take away some of the songs from it, and you would have an album that rivals, "Off The Wall".

about time! At first listen, some songs made me cry and emotional and happy, and others felt bland, cause I wasn't used to hearing pure r&b mj at that time, it made me get more into his pre-off the wall work though I already liked the Jackson 5 and Jacksons through the popular singles and performances I got off VH1.

There's a little something for everyone on that CD and it's definitely musical and artistic. I wrote some of my deepest material while listening to that CD and feeling inspired. If you can, please get the Cry single, it contains the unreleased album track Shout, the lyrics are wonderful!

Invincible was one of the best albums to feature his ballads, they made the album to me.

I could care less for the title track (though the beat was catchy and MJ was singing real good on that one) or "Heartbreaker" but "Unbreakable" I thought was real nice.

But the album gets smoking when it comes to these songs:
"Break of Dawn" (MJ's best quiet storm joint since "Lady of My Life")
"Heaven Can Wait" (I thought he was echoing Teddy Pendergrass vocal wise when he growled)
"You Rock My World"
"Butterflies"
"Don't Walk Away" (great pop ballad, it's perfect to sing to, lol)
"Whatever Happens" (the best track on the album)
"Threatened" (the 2001 edition of "Thriller" but nice nonetheless)

"Speechless" was decent but it cut off so fucking short to me.

"You Are My Life" was good filler. "2000 Watts" could be a guilty pleasure, lol.

"Privacy"? Eh, lol "The Lost Children", OK, it's not one of his worst, lol, but I guess the lyrics were its saving grace, but MJ like doing songs like that. shrug

"Cry" had a nice message in it.

Overall, very good. You'll probably dig it.

A lot of Prince songs have loops because with dance songs there is always something significant and necessary about the repetition of a good funk grind...

dance4me3121...'Invincible' is one of MJ's greatest albums. As u can see amongst most of the posts here, there's something everyone likes on it...his voice was rawer than anything he'd ever done b4...the funk stronger...covered all bases...he'd been through everything personally and professionally...so he just went 4 it...I just thought MJ was getting better and better...

I for one like 'Unbreakable'...reminds me (a bit!) of LeGrind (just the looping grind sound in it)...'Invincible'...the song itself is futuristic sounding enough 4 me and lyrically sound...

I play those two songs back to back....meaningful to me as my ex girlfriend was 'Invincible' in her betrayal of all we held dear...and her lack of remorse and regret...yet I was'Unbreakable'...in regards to my spirit and resolve...

I won't comment on the other tracks as that would spoil your enjoyment of them...

Peace

SoulAlive

I find that the ballads and slower tracks are the highlights of this CD:

"Butterflies"
"Break Of Dawn"
"Heaven Can Wait"
"Speechless"
"Cry"
"Whatever Happens"

It's the uptempo songs that are mediocre."You Rock My World" is okay, but songs like "Heartbreaker","2000 Watts","Privacy" and the title track are lame.

He should have kept the ballads and worked with another producer on the uptempo stuff.
