And that's cool, I'll do that, but honestly, my fans want to hear a variety of songs. Even back in the day, I was singing...People don't realize that 'Dreamlover' was based on a loop that a lot of rappers have used so that was way back when. I don't think people realize that it was a pop song [but] underneath it all it was produced by Dave "Jam" Hall, who would mainly work with Mary J. Blige and rappers. It's always been a love of mine to sing R&B music. But the thing is you can sing a song like 'The Impossible' or 'H.A.T.E. U' and you don't have to belt or sing out the whole time. I think 'I Want to Know What Love Is' does what he is referring to. Can I say one more thing? If they can't hear that I'm a vocalist from 'I Want to Know What Love Is' then I just don't know what they want me to do. I think its more like like Mariah is in denial about the fact that her voice is no longer as strong as it used to be, so she shrugs it off and says she changed her style so she doesn't have to belt out tunes that she was once capable of. It is denial. Then the fact is that she does not have to do urban Music to do something uptempo. To be fair...her best uptempo tracks are the ones that are old school r&b samples and her David Morales dance tracks. I think the writer was tired of her ONLY working with rap/r&b producers.....there is no variety on her album...its almost like the same songs all through the whole album but she says, "my fans want a variety of songs"....there wasnt really any. the album is a done deal at this point, it sold its peak already, those who wanted it bought, thats the case with having a following, you peak you fall, i think we all knew that this record would have no staying power at all, no second single, and it seems that she has even walked away from it "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I'm a fan but the disc is overall an overproduced disappointment. The lukewarm reception of the first single was a bad omen. [Edited 10/14/09 20:25pm]

Now you know that things are bad in the music biz when even Mariah Carey has trouble selling CDs Forget platinum, most artists are now having trouble reaching gold status. She's gonna have to get out there and start touring more often. That's gonna become her bread and butter.Gone are the days when she could just sit back, sell millions of CDs and collect those royalty checks.

Know that's right. She really just sat back and let Tricky and Dream do away with this album. Tht's her own fault. She too busy trying to be hip instead of being grown. Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse sounds SO much more mature than her these days. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Bless her heart she's a sweetheart
I just don't understand why she insists on wearing platform shoes like that. She's tall on her own. Makes her look like a giant I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

I love the layers in particular. I don't know, maybe I pick up on the joy she had recording it but it's definitely a favorite. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I love RuPaul's review. It expresses how I feel...
L.O.V.E.U. Mariah is at the top of her game on her latest album "Memoirs..." I haven't stopped playing it since I got it three weeks ago, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Every track is perfection. The woman is a master at conceiving, writing and producing pop music that satisfies the hungry heart. I venture to say, it's my favorite album of Mariah's since "Music Box." Even the gratuitous "The Impossible" has grown on me. Maybe it's that there are no rappers on this album (I actually prefer the Gucci Mane rap version of "Obsessed"), or maybe it's the absence of Jermaine Dupri that makes it so palpable. Whatever the case, I'm lovin' it. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
