No wonder she became so emboldened in her lies. It's also no wonder the freelancer didn't feel the need to fact check too deeply. I mean, if Cornell's site says they gave her a PhD, why doubt BumFcuk College gave her a B.A. That chick is ridiculous. I'm saying...

Not to mention in the original article the reporter quoted some woman that worked at Cornell who said she told Roxanne that we're gonna make them pay and she confirmed that checks came from Warner's. Why on Earth would that lady lie??? [Edited 9/5/09 9:04am]

I don't mind when some rappers lie about being cops or drug dealers or car thiefs (which is stupid anyways) but to LIE about getting a PH.D?! Least say you decided to pursue your education, that's MUCH better. I hope this chick don't get booed at the old school hip-hop concerts she's regularly attending in New York for this shit.

Damn! She lied about that? And here I am cheering her for "sticking it to the man" and the whole thing is bullplop! Great story though

Why on Earth would that lady lie??? [Edited 9/5/09 9:04am] Actually, in the original story (which is still online) the woman was from the FIRST school she attended--not Cornell. The story was that it was this woman's insistence on helping Shante get her due that set her on the course to future educational glory. Apparently, she attended Marymount for a few months before leaving without ever returning to graduate, so perhaps the woman was telling the truth about accepting her on the basis that she would someday receive payment from the record company. However, I don't know if the woman is quoted as saying this or if it's another lie Shante recounted. Obviously, the company never agreed to pay for her schooling so it's doubtful any of that happened.

Makes you wonder what Shante's REALLY been up to all these years.
Seems she was nothing more than the average bumfcuk lowlife trifling single mother with a string of babydaddies, no education or real job. Now it appears she may have opened some sort of bootleg practice claiming to be a psychiatrist when in reality she needs one. Those lies were BIG and BOLD. Not to mention stupid. What's scary is that she's been telling that lie for YEARS. I guess the story about her giving out $5,000 scholarships is bogus too. Lying heffa!

The way it was written, it sounded like the reporter was actually quoting the dean. Shante found an arm-twisting ally in Marguerita Grecco, the dean at Marymount Manhattan College. Shante showed her the contract, and the dean let her attend classes for free while pursuing the money.
"I told Dean Grecco that either I'm going to go here or go to the streets, so I need your help," Shante recalls. "She said, 'We're going to make them pay for this.'" Grecco submitted and resubmitted the bills to the label, which finally agreed to honor the contract when Shante threatened to go public with the story.

In light of everything, it's obviously the writer was simply printing the lies as she told them. There's no direct quote from the dean. Well, I guess Roxanne did go to the streets b/c she ovbviously didn't go to anybody's school for longer than a few months.
