OK, you know Terence's voice is suited for that song. How about Solo? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The funny thing is both Sananda and Prince love to perform on the Jay Leno Show.
Check Sananda out on the Jay leno show awesome performance much better thanprince with the work : http://www.youtube.com/wa...jqzsVJ-PNE Compare this performance on the Tonight Show with prince "the Work" performance and say again prince would win any battle with this guy easily. OK, you are comparing them at different ages and different sounding music. Sananda is what, 30 max there while Prince is in his 40s. I would actually say TTD's moves are more reminiscent of Michael Jackson than Prince [Edited 9/2/09 16:37pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Some Prince moments that for me blow the Op's clip away
Irresistible Bith/Possessed from PR live Syracuse. The entire second half of Lovesexy Dortmund Most of the Detroit bday show from 86 (but especially Automatic) The UTCM premier performance of Mutiny. I could go on and on. Still dig Terrance though. I used to call "Dance Little Sister" the best Prince song not written or performed by Prince.

Well, I watched all the clips PPKing posted and this must all boil down to a completely subjective matter of personal taste because TTD is not anywhere near as exciting a performer as Prince. His moves seem stiff and uninspired to me.
Too bad P has taken down all his videos so we could do some actual side by side comparisons instead of going back in our memories and pulling out this one and that one, etc. You gotta be kidding with that Sananda live 2008 with big ochestra clip. Man, he wasn't even close to being on key there. I've never heard P miss a single note let alone be off for a whole song.

Vocally, Sananda > Prince.
Prince is a strong performer and having seen both of them live, I like Prince's style of performing better than Sananda's. That's not to take away from Mr. Maitreya. Nowadays, if they were both playing the same night, I'm going to see Sananda. Prince has definitely taken a turn for the worse in terms of material these days.

Has Prince ever performande so funky?? http://www.youtube.com/wa...epage#t=34 [Edited 9/2/09 12:53pm] ok - 16 years back - Sananda Maitreya better known as Terence Trent D'Arby was about 30 years old - when our man was 30 his splits and moves where surely much better than the one of TTD. Although - i still like terences' music from that days - and for a short (really short) period the media celebrated him as the new prince. so now, nearly 20 years later - we still got our man with a cd (or more than 1 cd ) every year - but I don't know any of the new songs of Sananda Maitreya . nV

Go to a Jimi Hendrix forum they don´t take Prince on guitar serious he´s just an Hendrix / Santana impersonatir they´ll say. Sananda has nothing in common with Prince music. His music style is more 60´s soul and his voice doesen´t sound anything like Prince. Ok both have same dance routines that are similar because both were stealing from Brown, Wilson and Richard. But nowdays both artist don´t dance anymore so right now they have nothing in common anymore! Today I´ve received my Lotus Flower TV DVD and I´ve seen the SuperBowl Press Concert with Johnny Be Good etc. ANd I was so disappointed. What happend to that man´s voice?? THis was one of the worst performances of his entire carrer. It ruined his legacy. With that performance he isn´t even in the top ten of the best living live performers right now. Very weak and thin voice. Did he ruined his voice? No energy just a lame performance even the people sitting there were all what the f... they seemed really bored. [Edited 9/3/09 6:44am]

Let me jump into this debate.... I'm a HUGE Sananda fan, he's my favorite artist. I'm also a huge Prince fan as well. I've seen Prince in concert 3 times and I saw Sananda in concert in '95 on the Vibrator tour. I've also seen PLENTY of concert footage from both.
This debate about who is better is really not worth having. They are BOTH awesome and I can totally see where both arguments are coming from. Yes Prince is ridiculously unbelievable live and a better dancer and instrumentalist (and I think Sananda is the MUCH better songwriter in my opinion), BUT, whenever I've seen Prince live, it was great but I was felt a little let-down... Sananda on the other hand, when I saw him live in '95, I was completely blown away. The best way I can explain it is that he REALLY connected WITH the audience and really just put on electrifying performance that hit you in your soul. Prince is awesome but at least in my experience, when I've seen him live, I just feel like I'm watching a great performer but not that much of a connection to the audience....Just my opinion, but like I said, they are BOTH unbelievably awesome. NOW WHAT I REALLY WANTED TO SAY: I absolutely do not see at all the comparison between Sananda and Prince. Biting Prince's moves? That is complete nonsense. Copying some James Brown moves, yeah, but Prince's moves? I don't see it. I also don't see the comparison to Prince's music at all. Sananda's music is VERY different. I think it's just a case of "Oh a black man is playing all the instruments and writing his music and doing rock and r&b and he's a little strange so obviously he's trying to be Prince." If you really listen to Sananda's music, I think the influences that are most apparent are the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, James Brown, etc. Sure there are other influences as well, and I have no doubt that Prince is an influence as well, I'm just saying that his sound has always been completely different from Prince's sound and if you were going to accuse him of sounding like someone, there are other artist that would make for a better argument, but everyone is influenced by other and we ALL know there are countless Prince songs that are HEAVILY influenced by James Brown, Sly Stone, & Jimi Hendrix. And someone mentioned "Sign Your Name"... I really don't see how "Sign Your Name" is "trying to be like Prince." "Sign Your Name" is a great song and it doesn't sound like anything Prince has done to me. So I really wish people would stop with the whole "He's trying to be Prince" crap. EDIT: PPKING, I like that you are such a big Sananda fan like me, but I disagree regarding the Prince perfomance not being all that...Prince has been absolutely fantastic the last few years. I'm blown away by almost all the footage I've seen of Prince the last couple of years. That does NOT take anything away from Sananda. Like I said, they are BOTH awesome and everyone should be digging both of these amazing artist. [Edited 9/3/09 6:52am] [Edited 9/3/09 6:53am] [Edited 9/3/09 6:56am]

He keeps getting better as a musician and entertainer. I don't dislike TTD but he is not in P's league. You have a dozen other artist that would fall in wrong of him before he would even be close to Prince.
