Whitney Houston, what's the big deal?

So the non-dancing, leggy, dyke is back with her first album in 7 years - wow, whoopie...
Her taped live appearance yesterday in Central Park in NYC that is airing right now on ABC TV's GOOD MORNING AMERICA is a trainwreck. She sounds horrid and can't dance a lick.
She has the most plastci personality of all the so-called divas.
Why did she become such a sensation anyway? Why did some people think she was all that and a bag of chips?
She has lied about her lesbian ex-lover Robyn Crawford, she lied about drug useage and she allowed hersefl to be apart of a spin machine that included a fake marriage to Bobby Brown.
Her albums have been spotty, and her acting skills are mediocre at best.
Her voice is shot from smoking cigarettes, doing drugs and lifestyle. If I were to give her any praise it would be for her first album WHITNEY HOUSTON, beyond that a few songs have been good, but for the most part she is way too schmaltzy with pop fluff (thanks to Dame Clive Davis trying to make this butch stud broad into something she has never been and never will be).
Stay away another 7 years and forever Nippy.

Thanks

Well...back in the day,Whitney was truly an amazing vocalist. She had one of the greatest voices in pop and R&B.Plus, she had some really good tunes. It's not hard to see why she became a superstar in the 80s.

If I were to give her any praise it would be for her first album WHITNEY HOUSTON

I agree, the first album is superb."You Give Good Love" is arguably her best single.

Didn't see the performance, but I heard the single and yes,her voice isn't what it used to be shrug I think she may have some problems if she decides to go on tour.

She has lied about her lesbian ex-lover Robyn Crawford

How do you know this? hmmm

she lied about drug useage and she allowed herself to be apart of a spin machine that included a fake marriage to Bobby Brown.

I don't know if the marriage was 'fake',but I know that it was a disaster that everyone saw coming, except for Whitney.

her acting skills are mediocre at best.

True, but 'The Bodyguard' was still a great movie lol Most singers who try to act aren't very good, anyway.

She blames talking too much on Oprah as the reason why her voice was cracking...losing her voice. She should have been singing and not talking. She should have drank some lemon tea and used a humidifier or something. Singers have some sort of voice saving regiment. I wonder if she's planning to tour, if so, she needs to adopt some sort of regiment.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who felt that way. I hated the Bodyguard movie.

I highly doubt if she'll tour. If she does, it will be a small tour.
I don't think I've ever heard of her doing large tours. Has she?

What's stopping you from listening? It's a good album. It's nothing over the top or anything that breaks new ground. It's a solid pop album. I think that was the intention.

Well, I agree her voice isn't what it used to be, but she's never really been able to dance. lol

Hold on! Now I'll let VainAndy get away with his trash talking Whitney because I know deep down he actually cares (Yeah, you do VA, so just hush!) but some self-proclaimed RnBAmbasssdor that obviously knows nothing about RnB? (Yeah, I read what you said about Aretha.) I don't think so! no no no!

Why did she become such a sensation anyway? Why did some people think she was all that and a bag of chips?

I can show you far better than I can tell you!

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

You said:

So the non-dancing...blahblah

When you can sing like Whitney Houston in her prime, you don't have to dance but since you think she just can't...

Exhibit C:

She didn't have to do all that ass and titty shaking that today's female singers have to do to sell a record.

When it came to singing live, she was all that, a bag of chips and the whole potato chip industry!

Exhibit D:

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I totally c VA's point about Whitney. I never cared for her in the beginning. I have grown to like a lot of her music, but I really don't think she was ever really promoted as a r&b artist in the beginning. She was always shaped for "pop" success. Sure, she could sing, but all of those songs on the first 2 albums were pure mush. Her 3rd album only had more r&b because she had gotten booed at the Soul Train awards the year before.

VA is right also about how r&b music started to change after Whitney took off. After she took off, record companies scrambled to find the next pop star. Mariah Carey was definitely a by-product of this trend.

Some people seem to think that reaching 5 octaves and having 'technique' means you are a 'soul singer'.

Lets hope that species is dying out, taking Whitney, Mariah and Celine with them. biggrin
