Luther's version of that song, was a cover as well. The original was done by Major Harris and in my opinion, is BETTER that both John's and Luther's version combined. It beats theirs, hands down.

Check it out.

Thanks for that. I'm going to grab it. As of now, I'm going to stick with John Legend's version, but I think I will enjoy this one a great deal too. Maybe I'll end up changing my mind down the road.

Yeah Ike & Tina's version was the best cover. But the Beatles' version is very cool.

actually every cover of Beatles' songs better than the original

give a fucking break.

his cover sucks.. manufactured pop shit

I like Jackson's version better too. If it means I like "manufactured pop shit", so be it. I'd like to think Jackson's show enough originality to be able to not have that label put on him or his work, but whatever.

Another Beatle's cover I like more than the original:

Stevie Wonder - We Can Work It Out

Different styles for different folks wink

The fact many of you like or love these covers of the Beatles at least proves The Beatles had a gift for songwriting, don't you think? biggrin

I am not a fan of John Legend, mainly because he bores me. I call him, the "Black Tony Bennett". I think his brother, who is his backup singer, is a far better singer than John.

That's one of my favorites. I know one of my first playlists will be a Beatles covers set. I love great Beatles covers.

I am Beatles Fan #1, but a lot of the covers of their music are better than the originals.

But to be fair I think they covered Twist & Shout, Rock & Roll Music, and Money well enough to make them their own.

Oh, definitely. I like The Beatles and each members individual works as well. I just hate it when it turns into a case of one side arguing against the other and not accepting originals can be better than covers or vice-versa.

That's a common complaint against John Legend. Many find his works boring. He's definitely not a one-size fits all artist.

I like Vaughn Anthony, but I don't prefer him over John Legend and he's only got one song I really enjoy, and I don't even think it was ever released. It's called "Wake Up".

I'm not a big fan of covers usually, but these are special...

This Woman's Work - Maxwell

I Feel For You - Chaka Khan

I Want You - Fiona Apple

American Woman - Lenny Kravitz

Human Fly - Nouvelle Vague
If you will, so will I

See my own thread about D-Train's version, I did say I prefer this and Isaac's over Dionne's. No hate on Dionne because I dig her version too but compared to Mr. Hayes and D-Train? Nah...not to me at least. smile

Because of the change in tempo, maybe?

Yeah it's just more smoother. It's like you're in a trance. I can still get down to Donny & Roberta because they owned that song but they "Luthered" this version, slowing it down a bit. lol

This is what struck me, when I heard it earlier today. I sounded weird, but in a good way. I just copped it from my brother and have been listening to it ever since.

hmph! I hate the tempo change. It sucks the life out of the song IMO. The original bounces like something Bacharach would've done for Dionne (with better vocals); that's a big reason why I love it. They need to stop dragging songs out and whatnot.

Now I feel like vainandy! lol
