actually to me this song is about the effects of heroin(china white?). to me its a story of a junkie who has fallen in love with the effect of the drugs. but is maligned because of a society that looks down on drug addicts. they see them as decadent parasites who just get high all day. the lead character does give not a shit, he's happy with his china girl!

Iggy did write this song for a girl he was seeing while he and Bowie were recording. I love the song, and Iggy version is far superior to me, much more feeling. The guitar work aids the true feeling of the artist- trying to kick, down and out, feeling fleeting joy during time when the only feeling he had was sickness, numbness, sadness, depression... Iggy's version sounds like despair, knowing the relationship would only be a moment in time and only the sickness would go on- a masterpiece.

I really hope Iggy is ok today- he appears to have finally beaten the drug demons (hard drugs, that is- I suspect he partakes in certain things on occassion). I do suspect they have him on medication for manic/depressive or bipolar condition.

Iggy is clearly a tortured soul who feels pain even when he is happy. I love his music and he is one of the greatest live performers out there. A genius who sees and feels too much. I wish I could hug Iggy and let him feel peace.
