Las Vegas Pays Birthday Tribute to Michael Jackson
By Mark Gray
August 30

Michael Jackson spent some of his final years in Las Vegas and now he'll forever be cemented in the city's legacy.

The King of Pop was posthumously awarded a star on the Palms Casino Resort's Walk of Fame Saturday – which would have been his 51st birthday – while his father, Joe Jackson, and a smattering of fans looked on.

"I wish he was here to see this take place," Joe Jackson said of the son who died June 25. Police have labeled the death a homicide.

With the sounds of "Thriller" coming from the speakers and a drum line playing, the patriarch of the Jackson family smiled and posed for pictures as the star was unveiled in front of the Brenden Theatres.

The ceremony was actually two years in the making, organizers said, adding that Michael Jackson wanted to coordinate the unveiling with some type of major event.

"The plan was that Michael would accept the star after the run of London shows," said emcee Robin Leach.

Meanwhile, further west on Saturday night, at the Hollywood Bowl, Liza Minnelli said at her concert, "Today would have been Michael Jackson's birthday. And I loved him with all of my heart, and I will miss him for the rest of my life."

Thanks for the Marlon interview. Well we can say for one that the Jacksons have different accounts with their upbringing. Marlon sounds more like MJ than the others but that's probably evident because they were the closest brothers.

[Edited 8/29/09 17:03pm]

Damn T, that is a SERIOUS picture. There aren't many pics of the Jackson Five that I haven't seen. But I have never seen this pic. A picture speaks a thousand words huh? Man, what is THIS pic saying? U know, whenever I would hear about Michael not having a childhood, I would always think of Marlon. Marlon was so close in age with Michael. Granted, it was more pressure on Michael being that he was the frontman and the group's success rode on Michael's shoulders to a large extent. Although Jermaine sung co-lead on some of their early hits and lead on others, and he was definately the most popular next to Michael. But Marlon suffered as well. In some ways, worse than Michael because Michael was the "star" of the group and Marlon would catch a different kind of hell from their father if he didn't measure up to Michael. Marlon was in an odd place being right in the middle of the group's two most popular brothers. I think Marlon handled it well. He has always seemed to be a very kindhearted person. Always. But this picture....Both kids seem sad. But u can see the connection they both shared with each other in their body language. Their sitting exactly alike, fingers crossed, but their looking in opposite directions. The pressure on them was huge. The J5 were extremely popular and they toured and toured and toured. They routinely played arenas, zig zaging across the country and the world. U rarely see that addressed, the road wear that it had to have taken on them. Just from the touring alone. Michael and Marlon were just kids here. Very talented kids but kids never the less. And that shows in this picture.

I have most of all of the J5 cartoons on vhs. That would be beautiful if they were released on dvd. I remember watching The Jacksons show on CBS during the summer of 76 into early 77. I feel really blessed being able to have seen the Jackson 5 live in concert a few times when I was little. And then seeing The Jacksons on The Victory tour. I also was able to attend a television taping in an airplane hanger at Santa Monica Airport when Michael was filming a television special for ABC. He had Slash up there with him. Everyone there was able to witness just how much of a perfectionist Michael was. Take after take, he was pinpoint precision.

I think MJ was not human, he was of a higher species. Do you think he had to go to the restroom and stuff? I don't think we have any prove for this? And if, it might have been a publicity stunt in order to make him seem more human.

I've heard he had no toilets in Neverland at all, is this true?

Whenever guests asked where they are he told them he didn't know what they mean. Restroom? What's that?

Lenticular Ticket:

The tickets printed with the special lenticular process, were inspired and designed by Michael Jackson for the fans attending his shows. This "oversized" concert ticket measuring 82mm x 186mm (3.23in x 7.32in) was for the 50 This Is It shows at The O2.

His hopes were his fans would want to keep the special ticket, as a reminder of the memorable evening that they would share together.

The concert tickets feature one of eight unique designs printed via the lenticular printing process.

Lenticular printing is a 3D process that can contain animation, multiple photos, morphing or a combination of these. The front of the ticket is the lenticular image and the reverse side is the standard ticket detail including the performer name, tour name, show date, venue, section number, row number, and seat number.

*Ticket images are not to scale and are a still image snapshot of the actual moving image represented on the concert ticket.

Interesting

We Killed Michael Jackson

Where were all the weeping fans, the artists who hail him as their hero, the radio DJs who can't stop playing his music? Where were they 10 years ago? Oh right. Everyone thought Michael Jackson was a freak - a plastic surgery addicted child molester. His last studio album "Invincible," released 2001, failed to garner true hit single because radio stations refused to play the songs. Music critics tore him to shreds. He was blackballed. People made fun of him, he was considered a washed-up, has-been, crazy person.

The success of "Thriller," which as sold over 110 million copies worldwide and counting, can never be matched. ("Invincible," for the record managed to sell respectful 13 million copies worldwide to date. No artist can keep up that kind of string of hits. But, he put his heart and soul into every new recording he did, but judgment had already been cast before anyone heard the music.

He was a desperate man in pain and everyone threw stones at him. Now it's fashionable to be a Michael Jackson fan. Radio stations now play his music on heavy rotation. His albums are flying off the shelves. Urban Outfitters even carries a commemorative vinyl collection that hipsters can frame and put on their walls. Suddenly the entire world has rediscovered Michael Jackson. He's dead damn it. Imagine what this kind of love would have done for him while he was living? Maybe then he wouldn't need drugs to sleep.

Michael's body was still warm when celebrities, music execs, family members and even his personal staffed whored themselves to TV news programs professing to be Michaels' best friends. People who didn't even know him were releasing statements. Where were these so called best friends when Michael needed an intervention? Needed help? Nowhere. Yes, some tried, and Michael would not listen -- so keep trying!!!

Things had gotten so strange in Michael's world, that before he signed with AEG to do a string of concerts, one management company was trying to convince him to be 'virtual Michael.' No joke - they were going to set up a 3D Internet portal so Michael could interact with the world without leaving his house. That's enough to make anyone feel nuts.

The AEG deal gave him new life. It brought him back to what he does best - perform, be in front of fans, be around humans. Only the inner sanctum at AEG believed in him. The public and the pundits were waiting for him to fail. Many fans who bought tickets to the sold out concerts just wanted to go to see a historic spectacle, hoping they would witness a car crash.

We killed Michael Jackson. We helped create his gilded cage and then we rejected him. Death serves you well Michael, the world is finally acknowledging the amazing force of nature you were. You changed the face of music. Rest in peace.

http://www.huffingtonpost...72174.html

Thats not entirely true. There were tonnes of fans there for his trial every damn day. All his concerts sold out at lightening speed. There were still heaps of people loving him before he died. I get the point though, that the general public denied him and are now loving him. But shes wrong about the weeping fans and artists hailing him only being there now

I agreed the author should have choose her words carefully because fans like myself always been supportive of MJ even through his darkest hours and were intelligent enough not to allow the anti-MJ media negativity and lies keeping us from remain his fans. Nevertheless I am glad that she is calling out the phony ass celebrities and bandwagons who ridicle him and also distant themselves from him while he is alive and when he needed him even though he was proven innocent in 2005. When I seen some of the people coming out acting like they always been a friend or a fan of MJ, I am like what good showing ur love and appreciation now would do because he is not here seeing all of this. So I just ignored the bandwagons because once the MJ's interest dies off the ones are going to there and fighting demanding justice for his death and to carry his legacy besides his family and the very, very few friends he had are his true fans and new fans who is not in it for the fad.

I wished Michael never agreed to do that damn tour and he would might been here right now. He didn't like touring anyway he loves the studio. I didn't care about the tour (yeah I admitted I was looking forward to hear the scoop of the tour from my fellow Londoners who were expectd to go to that tour) because I preferred he would just do another album and do a one night concert for his final farwell on stage in Vegas that would broadcast all over the world(he suggested that in the first place but AEG like hell no), and also collarabote with today's artists and show them how it is done of having a good work ethic and also think outside of the box. The man toured practically all of his life and he deserved his retirement and it should happen after the 1997 tour. I also would been glad to see him on stage from watching youtube videos but at the end of the day he would practically do the same moves and singing that I would seen over the last 20 years when he toured. If he didn't tour ever again while he was alive I would been cool with it.

Mike looks so cute in the pic. Marlon's forehead is too high. That's how you can reckognize him. MJ is just a familiar face, Jackie has a big nose and liver lips, Tito is punchy, Jermaine usded to be pretty and had pit marks and marlon a high forehead.

And when Randy came in, he looked even cuter than MJ did, but nowadays, he's bald and overweight.

The only one who has always looked the same is Joe. He looks mean.

There were other ways you could tell the brothers, even though it didn't always show up in pictures Marlon actually had reddish hair(it's even depicted like that in the J5 cartoons) and was the lightest out of all the brothers. Jackie did not have liver lips, I would say Marlon had the biggest lips. They all had broad noses, with probably the exception of Tito who looked the most like Joe.

Jackie was the male version of their mother, he looked nothing like his Dad, and so was Jermaine to a lesser extent. Michael and Randy seem to be a blend of both parents. Marlon looked like a younger version of their Dad. I would say Janet and Latoya looked more like Joe than most of the brothers did, I never understood Michael doing surgery not to look like Joe, because he wasn't exactly the replica of Joe in the first place.

Yeah MJ and Marlon were the mixture of both parents but I do think MJ had more of Katherine's heritage in his childhood. He didn't start looking like his dad until AFTER surgery oddly enough. confused So I don't buy that he was trying NOT to look like his pops.

I find the term liver lips terrible and mean. I just used it because they gave MJ this name. Awful.

I find, Katherine looked much better than Joes, but ass said before, he still looks as mean as 40 years ago and his weight hasn't changed that much.

I guess he is quite bald by now, since he always wears some cap.

Yeah MJ and Marlon were the mixture of both parents but I do think MJ had more of Katherine's heritage in his childhood. He didn't start looking like his dad until AFTER surgery oddly enough. confused So I don't buy that he was trying NOT to look like his pops.

Pops, We Love You

you know that one, Timmy?

The Berry Gordy, Sr. tribute? Yep.
