Jackson Tribute in Vienna: A Thriller Gone Bad? eek
September 10

It was supposed to be a thriller. Now it just looks bad.

Jermaine Jackson promised some of the planet's biggest stars would take the stage in front of a 17th century palace in Vienna for what's been billed as the major global tribute to Michael Jackson.

So far, though, he hasn't delivered top acts like Madonna for the Sept. 26 outdoor concert. And two of the supposedly confirmed headliners announced this week -- Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown -- apparently are out.

Blige's publicist says she has another commitment, a person close to the situation told The Associated Press in Los Angeles that Brown won't perform either and a spokeswoman for Natalie Cole suggested she, too, is iffy.

That leaves a smattering of B-list artists such as Sister Sledge, Akon and German boy band US5 -- and unhappy fans who paid up to euro512 ($745) for VIP seats have a stern message for organizers still scrambling for talent: Don't stop 'til you get enough.

"The lineup announced so far really disappoints me," said Dieter Kircher, 36, of Vienna, who shelled out euro63 ($91) on a standing-room ticket to the event outside Vienna's former imperial Schoenbrunn Palace. "I can only hope some real stars will come."

Austrian media ran withering headlines Thursday about the much-hyped tribute to the King of Pop, who died June 25 in Los Angeles, denouncing it as a flop.

"Chaos and cancellations," the daily Heute said. Public broadcaster ORF called the lineup a "farce" and a "debacle."

"Right now, the list of 'stars' probably wouldn't even fill the Vienna Stadthalle," an arena in the Austrian capital that draws top acts, ORF said.

Jermaine Jackson told reporters in Berlin on Thursday that he spoke with Blige and Brown, and that Blige said she wanted to take part but was committed to a Gucci fashion show engagement in Milan. Michael "meant so much to her," he said.

He said Stevie Wonder was trying to work out a way to perform despite a full schedule.

Brown, who is serving five years' probation for beating his former girlfriend, Rihanna, would need a judge's permission for any international travel, a Los Angeles court spokeswoman said Wednesday. No motion to do so has been filed, and the person with knowledge of the singer's situation said none would be filed.

On Wednesday, in London, Jermaine Jackson also said he hoped R. Kelly would sign on. Tribute promoter Georg Kindel would neither confirm nor deny a possible Kelly appearance.

Jackson and Kindel plan to hold a news conference in Vienna sometime next week to announce further details about the lineup.

Kindel said earlier this week that up to two dozen artists were expected to perform some of Michael Jackson's greatest hits -- including "Thriller," "Billie Jean," "Black or White" and "Bad" -- on a large stage with a crown on its roof to be erected on the palace grounds. He said 65,000 fans were expected.

Over the course of the evening, Jermaine will sing a virtual duet with his late brother, probably with video of Michael to be projected onto nearby walls, organizers said. In that respect, Kindel said Thursday, "the star of the event is Michael Jackson."

But the hype that has surrounded the event since it was unveiled led many fans to believe that superstars of Madonna's or U2's caliber would appear. When tickets went on sale online last month, the Web sites offering them went down for hours because of a crush of interest.

Kindel defended the lineup so far. "If someone wins nine Grammy Awards, is that a top star?" he asked. "Who is A-list? Who is B-list? Who is a star? Everyone has his own musical tastes."

Jermaine Jackson has said he's negotiating with broadcasters for licensing rights to a global tribute telecast that would air the concert live to 1 billion fans worldwide, but he hasn't said whether an agreement has been reached.

Members of the late pop star's family and his children are expected to attend. Organizers sought to refute published reports suggesting Jackson relatives are unhappy about the Vienna tribute and don't plan to come -- they screened a video Thursday in Berlin in which Jackson's mother, Katherine, said she fully supports the event.

"I'm sure the show is going to be fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing you there," she said.

Jermaine Jackson has said that Vienna -- a surprise venue -- was chosen because his brother "loved castles," and because Jermaine was impressed with how a smaller tribute held in July outside a mothballed nuclear power plant was organized.

The city of Vienna, which considers the tribute a potentially huge tourism boost, has pledged up to euro600,000 ($870,000) to help underwrite the cost of diverting traffic, providing security and producing a promotional video.

Deputy mayor Renate Brauner told the Austria Press Agency on Thursday that it's not too late to put the brakes on that spending. But Brauner said she hopes the tribute preparations regain momentum.

"As a fan of Michael Jackson, it would make me happy if some big names came," she said.

Latoya has a new tribute song to Michael.
It's been a while since my last La Toya update so I thought it was about time I devoted another post to world's greatest living vocalist. Since emerging from her self-imposed exile to personally hunt down Michael's killer, Toy has swiftly kicked Janet to the curb as the world's favourite remaining Jackson. The public simply can't get enough of our goddess. She's all over the gossip blogs and has been inundated with offers to appear on every US television show from Dancing With The Stars (Toy Toy just said no) to The View. The Pope of Pop accepted the latter invitation and will join the panel on the 16th and 18th of September. I just hope Whoopi can keep her hands to herself because La Toya's sexual energy is notoriously hard to resist and our girl doesn't open her front door for any old has-been!

As excited as I am about Toy Toy's publicity whoring rampage, I'm more interested in her musical comeback. Everything is going full steam ahead on that front with news that "Home" is currently storming up the iTunes (R'n'B) chart (in Germany)! If that isn't reason enough to celebrate, the sure to be iconic video debuts on the 1st of September. That's less than two weeks until La Toya officially makes Madonna, Britney and Lady GaGa redundant! I know you're thinking that Dutchess of Dance couldn't possibly have anything else up her sleeve but Australia's 4th greatest musical export, Peter Andre, recently announced that he's working on a Michael Jackson tribute with Toy! Talk about a clash of the titans! This has #47 smash written all over it! Peter mentioned the decade's most highly anticipate duet in a recent interview with TMZ. Fast forward to 1:40 mins to hear all the exciting details. You just know Michael shed tears of joy in heaven when he heard about this duo joining forces in his honour!
It's going to be a toytastic moment in the history of pop music.

What, that she will perform like Jermaine was going to or the choice of song? I'm not to sure about the choice of song, yes it was the only duet that they did together, but that song is about frustration with the media, and so I don't think it would really be all that appropriate for a tribute.

La Toya Tells Barbara Walters: Michael Laid to Rest in 'Full Makeup,' With Iconic White Glove in Casket

In her first in-depth interview since the death of her brother Michael Jackson, La Toya Jackson opened up exclusively to Barbara Walters about the family's grief.
"I don't think we'll find a person as talented, a person who thought the way he thought. A person with the heart that Michael had," La Toya, 53, told Walters. "People aren't that way anymore. He was special. He wasn't God, but he was certainly God-like. He was the closest thing to a god that I knew."
La Toya, one of Michael's closest siblings, was one of the first one to appear at her brother's bedside the day he died. Since then, the solo artist and model signed her brother's death certificate, became the legal guardian of his body and with the entire Jackson family, planned the funeral and memorial service in Los Angeles.

Michael was laid to rest in a private ceremony last week, nearly two months after his death, at the iconic Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, Calif. La Toya told Walters that her brother looked "absolutely fabulous."
"He was dressed in all white pearl beads going across, draped across. A beautiful big gold belt. Like ... Like a belt that you win being a boxer," she said. "Full makeup. ... His hair was done beautifully, his makeup was done beautifully."
According to La Toya, in addition to the stones Paris placed on his chest, the family put sunglasses, an iconic white glove and a few other items in the casket with him.

La Toya: Dr. Conrad Murray Summoned Michael's Oldest Son to Death Bed

According to the autopsy, the late King of Pop died of a fatal combination of drugs, including the powerful anesthetic propofol. Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's personal physician has admitted administering propofol, but has denied giving Michael anything that "should have killed him."
Murray told investigators that he had been trying to wean the singer off propofol by administering a series of other prescription sedatives. When asked by Walters if Murray murdered her brother, La Toya said, "Something went wrong. Something went wrong."
La Toya also addressed reports that Michael's oldest son, Prince, was summoned by Murray the night of his father's death to help resuscitate his father.
"He called Prince ... Prince ... watched him do this, Barbara. And you don't do that to a child. You don't do that to a child, especially when you knew prior to asking that child to come up, that Michael was no longer alive," she said.
La Toya stressed that she believes Michael was dead long before Murray even called for Prince -- but called the 13-year-old in, to "show that [he] had nothing to do with this."

Since Michael's death, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office ruled the manner of death a homicide. The Los Angeles Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Murray, as well as other doctors known to have prescribed narcotics to Michael, have been questioned.
"I blame any and everybody who was instrumental in Michael's life providing him with drugs because it was wrong. It was terribly wrong," said La Toya. "They're doctors! This is going against their license, Barbara. You don't do things like that."

La Toya: Blanket 'Looks Hispanic'

From the day each of Michael Jackson's three children was born, the identity of their biological father has been questioned.
"It doesn't really matter, those are Michael's kids. He raised those kids," La Toya said. "They were in his arms when they were born; the minute that they were they were right there with him. They only know Michael as their father."

Michael married the mother of his two oldest children, Debbie Rowe, but she has had almost no contact with the children for nearly a decade.
"They know who Debbie Rowe is. Whether or not they know she's their mother, I'm not so sure," La Toya said. "They haven't seen her since he's passed. But they're more than welcome."
Blanket, Michael's youngest child, was born to an unnamed surrogate after Jackson and Rowe divorced. La Toya said that Michael had told her that Blanket is Hispanic.
"I said to Michael, I said, 'He looks Hispanic.' And Michael said, 'He is,'" La Toya told Walters.

Future for the Jackson Children

In his will, Michael named his mother, Katherine Jackson, 79, as their sole guardian, and in July 2009, she was granted full, permanent custody of the three children. La Toya said that they will continue to be home-schooled, "just the way they were with their dad."
La Toya also talked to Walters about how the kids are coping with the grief.
Silencing rumors that Michael did not want the children around his father, Joe Jackson, La Toya said Michael had made amends with his father and that the kids had a good relationship with their grandfather.
"They love their grandfather," she said. "They ... like the fact that he's very outspoken. And they say that, 'Grandpa, he tells you like it is.'"
Despite the past, she believes Michael would have wanted Joe to be involved in their lives.

Will Diana Ross Raise Michael's Children?

Michael never revealed why, but his will states that if his 79-year-old mother ever becomes unable to care for the children, he wants them to be raised by Diana Ross, 65.

"I know of course that Diana Ross is second in line for the children of course, and mother has spoken to her about things of that nature, but I don't wish to go into detail," La Toya told Walters.
La Toya said that the children don't have a relationship with Ross, or know that she might possibly be the woman raising them. When asked if Ross wants to raise Michael's three children, La Toya responded: "I think my mother knows the answer to that."
Why Michael preferred Diana Ross over his own eight siblings to care for his children was not explained in the will; sister Reebie, who has three children of her own, and has been married for 41 years, could be a candidate to raise the children in the event that their mother is incapacitated.
"There's a possibility. There's a possibility," La Toya said, "She's done a wonderful job with her children."
La Toya asked ABC News to make it known that she was not paid for this interview.
Watch Barbara Walters's exclusive interview with La Toya on "20/20" Friday at 10 p.m. ET
