I've heard of them but I didn't actually listen to one of their songs untill today,,,,,is this Mr.Cymone's answer to Rick James & Prince's female groups though?

According to Andre, The Girls were assembled before Vanity 6 and The Mary Jane Girls were even conceptualized as a means of supplementing additional income while performing as Prince's bassist:
