That album was not half-bad. I haven't heard it in a while, but I remember liking certain songs.

I wouldn't say that. I believe it went platinum. Also, "Time and Chance" made the R&B top 10; that song and "Choose" both just missed the Hot 100 top 20. The album didn't match the success of their debut, but it wasn't unsuccessful.

falloff

sad to say, but they sold like 8,000% more albums than maceo's ever dreams of selling.

I use to really like them back in 1991/92, they were dreamed up by a record company to cash in on a trend. The set up was formulaic, one White(Sam Watters), one Jewish (Mark Abrams) lead singer, one Black (Kevin Thornton) and one Hispanic (Mark Calderon), and the music was a mix of pop, balladry and new jack swing. Mix this in with the primary colour scheme (Each singer was in a different colour box on the album), and then finish your gimmick by adding that the group came from Oklahoma of all places. Yet despite this, the album had some great songs, I wanna sex u up ' was a true classic and it was just funky. 'I ador me amor" was a great harmony style ballad with a latin feel (Showcasing Calderons voice over Abrams) and All 4 Love was upbeat pop, the rest of it was quite good too, not the bad filler you would expect. Whereas the second album had none of the infectious funk and fun served up on the first album. Despite the fact it was a record company set up, it was a better one.

I saw these guys in concert. It was my first, actually. I was there to see Paula Abdul for her Under My Spell tour in 1992. The opened. They were large at the time.

The only thing I remember about their part of my experience is the large numbers of very large teenage girls with very large over-sized shirts with the words "SEX ME UP" in very large letters on them.

Hardly. They managed to co-exist just fine during the groups' first albums.

FWIW, I believe their first singles ("I Wanna Sex You Up," "Gotta Love," and "Motownphilly") were released within a month or two of each other.

You have it backwards. The climate of music was changing by then and all of those kinds of groups were falling out of favor and being pushed out. Boyz II Men and Jodeci were some of the few to weather the storm (and they didn't weather it much longer).

nod Tell me about it. One of Boyz II Men's biggest problems was the fact that their style really never change at all, as if they were still On Bended Knees for all of 1990's.

And then The Backstreet Boys came along, making Boyz II Men yesterday's news.

No, Cash Money Records and the dirty south sound took over and killed the r&b boy band.

Immature/IMx, Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, & B2K put up a good fight. But yes, The Dirty South brand of hip-hop killed the r&b boy band.

Interesting that you mentioned the Chris Stokes creations. I think Chris' actions killed those groups.

Was Jagged Edge ever viable as a boy-band? Sure, they had a few hits, but they weren't the traditional boy-band/group.

They were discovered and produced by Jermaine Dupri. They were the kind of hip-hop/r&b boy band that wanted to sing while dressing too much like rappers. And to make things far worse, BSB & *NSYNC were already popular with their respected debut albums at that point.

I know that. My big deal with them is that they didn't seem like they had the talent to sustain a long career.

The song which featured Bootsy and Maceo, "in the sunshine", is a real showstopper of a track. Great fun. Bootsy co-wrote that one aswell.

Talking of Bootsy, he is also on a couple of tracks on an album called "new dream" by Boy Meets girl. "I love this world", one of the tracks that features him, is a nice track.
